Great classic film
Just watched a really interesting and pretty good old film called "The Stone Tape"
Its from 1972 and its made by the BBC. As far as I can tell, its no longer available (I just got my VHS copy through eBay and they go for £20 upwards on DVD!) Really interesting storyline, with strange script and brilliant synth music. Its a kind of sci-fi / ghost story and is in some places very unsettling and disturbing, in some places scary, and in others just bizarre. Bonkers and well worth a watch if you are into your film. Now that Ive watched that.... anyone else got any suggestions for really good "lost" classics, horror, sci-fi ?? (...and without trying to sound up my own arse, assume Ive seen all the usual classics so we dont need to post about those. Im looking for different things we might not have heard of before. :eh?:) |
'Moon' with Sam Rockwell in it. That's a good un. Solaris, that's another. Not lost classics I know, but not films that everyone has watched either.

Got both Solaris original and one with Clooney that everybody slagged, but I thought it was pretty good. A nice atmosphere and different than the original. Will give Moon a shot. Another great one for everyone - "The Assasination of Richard Nixon" - if you like Sean Penn, you HAVE to see it. Awesome film. |
Not an old film, however I recently watched the film drive.
It's quite a slow film but has a fab soundtrack ESP if you like synthesisers 80s retro sounds etc. Was voted film of the year 2011 from memory. Anyone else watched it? Has a good plot, plus just has an element of coolness about it. Col. |

Love 80s synth music - eg. Scarface soundtrack is awesome with that in it, and then all of John Carpenters films. The one note wonder  |
how about "Strange Days"

Being there is a top oldie. The only comedy to have the lead actor nominated for an oscar and boy was Peter Sellers brilliant.
|
Vanishing Point is a favorite of mine, early seventies film about a bet

Havent heard of any of those ones, and will go hunting for them on Flea-bay later tonight. Cheers very much gents. And yes, sellers is awesome, without a doubt one of the best comedy actors that was truly great at comedy AND acting. Oh, have to cut this message short, my "ffffuooooonnn" is ringing. |
Shallow grave!

...and I really like sci-fi and horror so maybe there are a few out there in those genres? |
Condorman..not sci-fi but an brill film,and its over 30 years old:thumbsup:
|
night watch and day watch are both great films but are Russian with subtitles
|
Strange brew, canadian drunks Bob & Doug Mckenzie eh! or japanese classic Battle Royale. my two fall back disengage brain films.
|
Strange Days is an absolute classic, props for already recommending that one :D
If you like esoteric, slightly weird old films check Altered States from 1980, Dark City 1998, the original Darkman 1990 movie is classic Sam Raimi. Can't recommend enough Daywatch and Nightwatch, totally awesome films. A Japanese film called Returner(2002) which is kinda like all the good bits from the Matrix only better! Hunter Prey 2007 is quite a cool, low budget sci-fi. It's not perfect but it is enjoyable:thumbsup: |
Cube
Event Horizon Saturn 3 Enemy Mine Lifeforce Outland |
Bad Taste for me was the best, least money spent film I have ever seen. Band in the 80s and I managed to watch it very late after and loved the really cheesy effects.
