Hex wheel conversion for AE vehicles
 

A few people are a bit unsure what parts are needed to do this, so I thought I'd create a new thread about it instead of going off topic in others :)

Parts needed for the B4/4.1

Steering blocks - AE part #9880 http://www.teamassociated.com/parts/details/9880/

Front hex - JConcepts part #2135 http://www.jconcepts.net/store/index...roducts_id=538
Rear hex - JConcepts part #2091 http://www.jconcepts.net/store/index...roducts_id=524

(You can also get AE part #7497 which will get you all 4 hex's in plastic)

Finally the wheels themselves, a choice of Proline or JConcepts...

Proline front - #2735-04 (white), #2735-02 (yellow)
Proline rear - #2736-04 (white), #2736-02 (yellow)
JConcepts front - #3347 (white or yellow)
JConcepts rear - #3348 (white or yellow)

The hex conversion gives you the same fitment and offset as the Kyosho RB5, so any wheels compatible with that car should fit, the TLR22 rear is the same too :)

B44 style front wheels won't fit on the front, the offset is wrong and the car will be much too narrow.

Loads of SC hex wheels around with different offsets, the hex conversion makes the SC10 the same fitment and offset as the SC10 4x4 so any wheels that work for the 4wd will fit the converted 2wd :)

Can I just ask is there any benifit to doing the hex conversion,im not knocking it im just asking for my own benefit of knowing,thats all dude

Certainly going to convert my SC10 over to hex before much longer. The main reason for me is so that I can swap front and rear wheels around to even out the tyre wear.

Yes it means an initial outlay and buying new rims too but that will be recovered in extended tyre life and not having to buy 2 sets of rears for every set of fronts.

Can't see that much of an advantage on a 2wd buggy though - obviously on the SC10 front and rear wheel sizes are the same.

44 front wheels won't fit as the offset is totally wrong.

The advantages are that the bearings are in the hub, so no chance of loosing them when changing wheels. They are a bit better protected from the elements so should last longer, you can use the same wheelnuts and nut driver for all four wheels. On the rear the pins are captive in the hex so you can use the stronger solid pins and not worry about them falling out when you change wheels :)

Also blue front wheelnuts look ace :wub :lol:

One of the main benefits I see is that the bearings are not being pushed in and out of the wheels constantly... I've noticed with previous B4's that the bearing housing in the wheel gets 'loose' and causes quite a lot of play in the front steering.

Having the bearings in the hubs like the old losi XXX is a much better way of doing it as its a lot more constant and like the previous post said it should make the bearing last longer as they're more protected from the elements.

What are the 2/54 screws in the back of the wishbone for??

For an anti-roll bar mounting...

I've got most of this stuff already now but the AE7497 4x plastic ones in the pack, are these not needed if I'm using the jconcepts ones?

Nope if you have the JC front and rear hex's you don't need AE #7497.

Does it go on outer whole near thread (do inside carriers) or on the inner one between bearing and end of axles???

Im in the UK and am really struggling to find the parts available in the shops to convert my new C4.1 to hex drive.

I'd ideally like the Jconcepts blue hex's but the standard push fit associated ones would do for now... but cant find anywhere that has the axles, the steering arms or the hex's in stock.

Also the Jconcepts wheels are proving more than difficult to find :(

My C4.1 id brand new so I've gotta get a good back up of wheels and tyres but dont really wanna buy a load of the standard B4 wheels and then change to the hex at a later date - not cost effective! I'd much rather just buy a job lot of the new Jconcepts Mono wheels from the start.

Can anybody offer any suggestions as to where I can get the bits from that may have them in stock???

JConcepts has appointed a new distributor recently - XFactory.

They are expecting their first shipment of 'stuff' any day now so we should be able to get the cool JC stuff any day now! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I am sure Darren from XFactory will probably respond too regarding the JC stuff.

Any hobby shop who deals with CML should be able to the associated bits within a couple of days if CML have them in stock.

i would like to know if the steering block comes with fitted bearings or are they the same size as the trailing front wheels bearings.?:confused:

You'll need to supply bearings, but they are the same size as B4 front wheel bearings.

Pro-line also do hexes as well.

Outer hole half way down the axle

as previous post who sells them in the uk? it states that x factory will but they are us or am i wrong as they sell in $???? so bit confused on that 1.

The Mono wheels had never been brought in by SMD previous, so you will not find anyone with stock here in the UK at present, However as of this weekend every dealer who deals with X-Factory UK is now armed with our UK Trade Price list and is able to order anything you wish "JConcpets" in for you. Any items ordered this week are being added to our first shipping order, so get some ordered up ASAP if you can to have them included....
