Hi I have a:

Novak GTB esc
LRP 5.5 Xcellorin X11 motor
Non Lipo cells
Spectrum DX2S 2.4ghz (new system this week)


It glitches and novak said

'Low power to the RX makes these "cut out" all the time.'

Using an RX Capacitor helps'.



Question: what type of capacitor would i need??

What servo are you running?

I'm not running the new spectrum servo supplied in the kit, just an old futuaba one

Depends on what you mean by 'Glitching'.

Spektrum SPM1600 Power Capacitor is an ideal additional safeguard to help prevent glitching that is being caused by a momentary voltage starvation to the Rx. You can test this as if it is a voltage supply issue to the Rx, the Spektrum orange bind light may flicker if the voltage goes below the normal operating range.

Powerful digital servos and/or powerful motors can both contribute to this although main battery quality is also a factor - if the battery cannot cope with the demands being placed on it then that too can cause the motor to stutter or 'cog'. Similarly, inappropriate gearing, or too much motor timing advance can cause the motor to stutter / cog on instantaneous throttle input as the system doesn't have sufficient torque to drive the motor correctly at that moment in time for the load being placed on it.

So glitching might be a radio voltage supply issue - in which case the power cap will help - but it can also be caused by other factors that are not Radio related. Any overload of the ESC BEC system will also make the radio 'drop out' - both the servo and the receiver are powered via the ESC BEC - so when the system is under extreme load from either the servo, the motor or the cells not being able to deliver the requirements, the BEC circuitry may not be able to supply enough to drive everything it is being asked to do.

Power Caps do often solve many issues though - but be aware that the glitching may be something else...

I ran the car in the dark without the body on and could see the rx light flicker then come on fully again. I also noticed that there is a delay from pulling the trigger to the engine going to full power, i dont think its map related.

Or should I just bin my LRP 4000 Miah stick batteries and go lipo!!

If you go LiPo, make sure you get cells rated 30c or above. This will solve your problems if it is a power delivery problem. Also, make sure you check your connectors from ESC to battery are in good condition;)

Is your GTB a spread spectrum version, if not as said you will need to run the Spektrum power cap.
