HVLP GUN?
 

Is the below gun ok to spray Mask out of?

just need some one to sanity check this for me.. i have a basic compressor with a small tank

personally i use a 2.0mm gun

i have heard of people using 0.8 so fairplay
i would recommend a minimum of 1.4

just make sure your comp can handle it..cfm wise etc

thats the same one i use its ok a do have to use higher pressure or thin it slightly

only thing is though i cant find my compressor stats, its just a basic mini desktop... £50ish type

i prefer to get the power tools out

do stress a good point but its only a £13 im sure i'll get other uses for it as well

When you say you have a 'desktop' compressor does it have a tank ? If it's designed for airbrushing and the tank is anything under 12.5 or really 25ltr you will kill it with a gun.

Especially an HVLP one. You'll pull the the trigger, all the air will flood out and you'll be waiting.

You need a minimum of 25ltr tank on your compressor and that will struggle to keep up. You can buy them in Machine mart and cheap places for about 50 quid, you can probably get a basic primer type gun with it for a deal price and that will be more than adequate to put the mask on with.

brush is fine for the odd one but what if you have 5-10

I've always brushed on, can't get on with this sponge method and never sprayed. Don't have any problems brushing it, never had, used this stuff for over a decade now. I guess it's a nicer finish if you spray it but can't see any other reason and for me that's no advance.

If putting LM on several bodies in one sitting then yep could be a benefit if you have an HVLP gun & comp with a large resorvoir....

+1 again for the brush, Maybe it could save a little time spraying but to be honest by the time youve got the compressor out and setup that time is gone and it may give a better finish but I find Jons Mask is pretty smooth brushed on and spraying the mask on certainly wouldn't make me paint the body any better.

So give me a brush and Im happy :D

The time you'd need to spend cleaning the gun out ways any quickness of putting it on, also as it's masking which is in effect just going to get pulled off and binned there seems no point in making it nice or nicer than a brush will do it. If you use a fairly decent soft brush you get no problems, if you're trying to do it with some extra cheap course stiff brush you'll probably not think it's the best method.
