voltage regulator?

Hi,

I ran my CE today for the first time today, it was fantastic, but.

I kept getting what I called 'black outs', everything went dead for a second or two, just enough to but me into the wall or another car. This happend about 5 times in one race. I moved back down to 10T and the problem got alot better.

I'm told because I'm running 4.8v 'C' cells, brushless 13T and Savox digi 1251 servo the voltage is dropping and turning off the RX. I need a voltage regulator to keep the RX powered up.

I don't know what I'm looking for so can't buy one with confidence. Could somebody point me in the right direction please? On Ebay, all I can find are lipo regs, I'm sure they are not what I want ???????

Thanks.

What speedo are you running? You don't need a voltage booster if you're running 4.8v cells. A stabilising power cap to the receiver can help, though.

It looks like the replies you have are about voltage boosters, personally i wouldnt have thought you would need this with 4 cells(unless theyre getting knackered). You need a capacitor on your speedo and receiver, they will act as a "resovoir" of power,so when you whack on the throttle and the battery voltage momentarily dips the capacitors maintain the voltage for that small amount of time.Im sure there must be a few threads on oople about "power caps" and their advantages

Karl done the bizz while i was typing!!!! :)

Hi,

I think your right. All the boosters say 4.2v max :(

I did fit a power cap on my RX for a race, but no change.

So I think I need a power cap on the ESC (hobbywing 60A).

I still don't know anything about those either !!

Any pointers on what ones to buy for the ESC?

I can repeat buy some caps for the RX on Ebay, as I got some of those for my 10's

The problem on my car is quite bad, when the RC shuts down, it normally twats me into another car or track side.

Thanks.

Will these work, or is there something bertter?

It could be that the Etronix receiver just doesn't cope with the lower voltage, Rob. Making your 4 cell pack into a 5 cell would resolve the issue, or a 2s receiver pack, very little weight in them.

That won't boost the voltage Rob, only maybe stabilise it.

All sorted, I bought 4 packs of 4400 Intellect 7.4v short case lipo's !

Same size as my 4.8 'C' packs and 50g lighter !!! May have to add weight now :o
