RC10 Worlds Graphite

Always fancied a RC10 Graphite when I was a kid. I finally buit one from parts bought on Tower Hobbies, eBay and co.
I didn't wanted a immaculate chassis as I plan to run it and it would be a shame to score a new one. I also wanted the best specs possible (stiff black parts, CVDs, Stealth tranny, Gouge direction, Fiberlyte graphite towers...) so although AE never sold a RC10 Worlds Graphite, here is one and it is mine!

Enough said, here are some pics!

Can you tell I'm happy? :p

This chassis is kinda special as it has been "factory cut" to be shorter front and rear. The thing is I can't fit the rear optional part that links the motor plate to the chassis
I also had to drill the chassis to fit the longer lipo cells

Done! I went brushed as I wanted a tiny esc and I had that nice Futaba lying on a box... Reedy Ti Worlds 10x1 for the ponies :woot:

the very late graphite team cars are considered the "rc10 graphite worlds cars". they came with a different chassis than the earlier ones like you have. here is a pic of the worlds graphite chassis in case you want to try to chase one down.

Yes, you are right for the (lovely) late chassis, but they were rather "team spec" with white parts.

Very nice build there. Mmm:)

eddscott 17-02-2012 04:42 PM

That is superb!

Never did get an RC10 as a boy. Quite fancy an RC10 restoration project.

Gayo 17-02-2012 05:07 PM

Do it, it's easy :). There are plenty on eBay, and most parts are still available on Tower Hobbies or eBay.

Thats really nice!! Very well done! I trust you are planning on racing this car? - should go well against much more modern competition ;)

Just out of interest do you still have the part numbers for the 'Factory Team' AE turnbuckles that you used... my Worlds Car still has the skinny standard items, I keep bending them & would like to upgrade them - I like the blue 'FT' ones & they are reasonably priced - but i'm not sure what lengths I should buy.

P.S Are you sure thats the Mirage shell... looks like the ProtechII to me?

Thanks! I plan indeed to race it on our astro club track near Paris. I sourced a Tekin RS, it should be ballistic with a 7.5 on such a light car (1350g before I fitted lead ballast under the direction, servo and lipo :o). Wheely time!

I used B4 FT turnbuckles I had from my long gone B4 exept for the rear ones where I used 1.65 ones: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXATGM
B4 turnbuckles are a little long though. Someone on RC10Talk posted the correct lengths, can't find it for now  But B4 ones do fit with a little love, lube and persuasion :D
Same thing for the servo turnbucke, I had to cut some of both ends but there was enough thread left to fit the rod ends.

Re the body, it is indeed a Mirage Protech reedition from TBG. Look for teambluegroove on eBay.

Thanks for the info Gayo!... i'm on RC10talk too, so will have a look to see if I can find that thread giving the turnbuckle lengths.

I run my RC10 with a 6.5BL & it sure does fly!

Wow, that is nice! I was another kid who always wanted one too. The graphite was beautifully laid out too. Good job.

Salut

hadn't seen this one before - very nice :)

?

Gayo, that was a hot build! Did you ever manage to race this rc10?

Gayo 30-07-2013 09:06 PM

Thanks, Naushad. Sadly no, I never managed to race it. I don't do much race meetings and when I do, I prefer to use my usual modern race gear. Another concern is that the front of the car is really light, it acts a bit like a Super Wheelie... So I think that for racing purposes, you better stick with the heavier tube chassis.
My club is considering doing mid-week race meetings, I think I could throw some vintage action in it :)

Nice car mon ami!

Welshy40 31-07-2013 06:24 AM
