Another Mardave is born.

My new V12 VRX CE with some home made carbon bits. My daughter has one exactly the same. Our shells are being painted by 'a man that can'

sunbeam 06-02-2012 06:34 PM

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it
Lets hope it works on the track :)
I thought I might have been attacked for making non Mardave parts, in our club, anything goes :o

gainsy 06-02-2012 07:29 PM

Im going to make myself quite clear here guys
Abusive pm's will not be tolerated on this site & will result in a ban as has become Paul this evening, he has been given a 1 month ban for this
On another note great job sunbeam

SLEENAD 06-02-2012 07:43 PM

Great looking parts sunbeam!

I guess the topplates are supposed to create some camber?

Ahhh, that will be why Paul emailed me to tell me to 'stick it up my arse' - I wasn't sure what he was on about
What a trouble causer.

stox217 06-02-2012 08:38 PM

I would be a little cautious about the GRP chassis as it is a little on the flexible side so if you find the car to be a little snappy and sometimes hard to drive it could be the flex in the chassis.
Could be worth a investment in the carbon version in the future :)
Have fun.

sunbeam 06-02-2012 10:06 PM

Hi,

The top plates are to give strength to the king pins and the tie bar to give the camber (allong with the middle bolt as per kit)

Making a carbon chassis is no problem at all, as you say, the glass one is a little soft. I'll bash one out  I love cheap Ebay carbon !!

Thanks.

Gazza 08-02-2012 09:40 PM

no

..

kaylon 08-02-2012 10:41 PM

Umm..Gazza..the design is similar yes but Sunbeams CF parts are quite obviously different simply by looking at the pics that he's posted compared to the ones you have supplied.

Sunbeam's top arms have far more material to them, are more flowing and attractive to look at and actually as far as I can tell have a far better finish.

Being inspired by a another product is a fundamental element of good design.

This makes me want to dust off my Mardave that has never even had a motor in it and do some CF parts :) ...Inspired by Sunbeam.

Btw...are these cut by Hand Sunbeam ?... if so with what?

Thanks

J

Gazza 09-02-2012 12:19 AM

Woosh. . . . straight over your head that one hey Kaylon

The design IS nigels . . .sunbeam just altered the top plate is all there is nothing similar about it its a copy

A Ferrari and a Kit car look alike both look the same both look good but the Idea is still Ferrari / Nigels. . .

Sunbeam still bought a kit of Nigel to copy it and classing it as is own is all im saying :D

Now if he had said

"seen these on e-bay and thought id have a go at making some "

Now thats a differant story

DCM 09-02-2012 07:15 AM

Bloody hell, you Mardave guys can find the smallest thing to argue about.... As for the kingpin support, yes he did buy the kit but, on receiving it and trying to install it, found it to be inferior so chose to make his own version, simple as that

Cory01 09-02-2012 08:44 AM

Don't think he ever mentions designing them him self only that there home made, which they are.

qatmix 09-02-2012 08:51 AM

Agreed, why all the petty sniping?

Unless Nigel invented these in the late 80's in East Anglia he isn't the inventor of this concept.

I had a suspension plate for my Mini stox in the late 80's when we used to race with silicon on the wheels in a hall with 1/12 cars.

Plus as an engineer would testify, the cut, thickness etc of the material would make a difference to the flex.

Can we just get on and enjoy racing our toy cars and stop any underhand comments? It might be fine on other forums, but Oople has always been a lot more informed.
