brushless motor problem help required!!

ive got a nosram istc matrix speedo and an orion vortex 6.5 brushless motor in a hot bodies d4,now the problem is that the motor is stinking hot and the speedo isnt?.
when you rev the motor it sounds rough(it has done since new but i thought that was standard) and smells a bit at first i thought it was due to the fact there was no vent hole in the shell-so ive cut a load of holes and slots in the shell-motor still hot.
then i thought the gearing was to high i changed the pinion from the 16 to a 19 still motor to hot.
just changed the motor to a 10.5 turn and the motor is now just warm is this right? and whats up with the vortex?

Look in the front of the motor through the vent slots, and see if there is any score marks on the internal fan, if there is your motor screws are too long.
