What webcam?
 

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to display some live race footage via a projector on to a 6x9ft screen. Would a webcam be up to the job? If so which one?

in stock in MK, or if you want to spend more the microsoft hd cams can be found for £35 online. better quality the picture, bigger file to capture etc.

sorry cannot be more helpful, seen your other post Matty and no one else is replying, what you need is to borrow one, must be someone with something, I think Truman uses a camcorder when streaming.

I have one of the Microsoft HD lifecam's and it works well.

However, I'm looking at using the camera from a tablet pc and using something like ustream.tv to broadcast live. I think it had the potential to work well !

+1 to Chris's Microsoft Lifecam HD.

I had to spec up a project for a big pharmaceutical company who wanted to use webcams on their booth at an exhibition. Needless to say, we had to ensure top quality HD images. The Microsoft Lifecam HD came out on top.

Only thing is the software that comes with it is pants, and the built in microphone is adequate but not great.
Not an issue on both points really, as Im doubtful if you would actually use its own software (there are much better web steaming packages out there anyways) and a simple external microphone would give you sound if you needed it.

I'm looking, to run the webcam on an extended desktop, and flick between BBK and the live racing in the pit hall. My AV guy tells me it's possible, hopefully it is.

What software do you guys recommend.

Sounds entirely do-able Matt. The extended desktop (dual monitor) setup should work fine.
You might need to watch as some webcam software switches off if not the "active" windows program.

I would recommend "YawCam" - its totally free, got loads of nice features, and most importantly, you can set it to transmit continunally, or even go into PIP (picture in picture) mode if it is overlaid over another Windows program.
