New shock tech, or just a gimmick????

This is nothing new or revolutionary. In some classes of r/c people have been doing this for years using different grades and thickness' of plastic discs under their pistons.

MIP have just packaged it in a nice little set.

Very well established technology, should work well.
Rather than using tapered pistons and trying to find an oil that works well in both directions, just use a shim and a shaped piston.
