Looking for a new esc
Hi all
I am looking for a new esc for my vega Have been looking at the tekin pro, orion r10, sp gt v2.0 & nosram pearl evo v2 versions I would like to be able to connect it to my laptop at meetings & will be running a 7.5t motor with it I would like to hear your opinions about the pro's & cons of each speedos & if i should stay well clear of any models, happy to take pm's or have it discussed on here Look forward to hearing your views |
I have "versions of" the Speed Passion in my cars and I can't fault it with modified motors. The boosted profiles are OK too if you like that sort of thing. The Hobbywing version is usually the cheapest version but there are good prices on the SP stuff around too.
Tekin has a reputation for being a bit like a switch, not very smooth. Don't really know anything about the Nosram, perhaps that is a good thing because it means people are just running them without issues! |
The problem I have with the Speed Passion are the footprint is a lot bigger than say the Tekin or Nosram, and the program box looks like a 5 year old has made it out of a cereal box and sweet wrappers. They should be ashamed to sell it with a premium product at a premium price.

Tekin has a reputation for being a bit like a switch, not very smooth.[/QUOTE] Its not that bad, it's mainly the last 10% of travel on the stick or trigger but this can be dialled out by 'softening up' settings slightly. After all, how many places are you truthfully at 100% flat out full tilt ? Sometimes you just want a bit of punch at full stick travel ! Hotwire is easy to use and the pc interface is also easy to use, updates online by Team Tekin. |
I have used losi xecelron and hobbywing, i haven't had any problems with either esc. boost timing is a great funtion if racing tc but offroad i have been advised do not require high timing settings. I still run a xecelron esc & 6.5 now for a number of years, my only concern is there software can become hard to install on certain pc's but it does work well .
My hobbywing is in my tc no problems either i do recommend them, if i had the money i would replace my xecelron with a hobbywing 120amp v.2.1 as for the more expensive brands i dont know as racing on a budget ends up desiding what i buy. |
Viper VTX10 goes down to 6.5t mate. I have the VTX10R and you have seen the damn thing go. It's like a cruise missile! Then I get to a bend and it all goes wrong, but that's just me.... :p

Just spoke with a Kyosho driver last Saturday who was fitting his Rb5 with a new Orion R10 (pro I assume). He said it felt significantly smoother than anything he had used before. He also echoed some of the comments above saying that the Tekin was not much different to him than the speed passion for smoothness and other features.

The Orion esc's are hobbywing as are speed passion esc's

I have experience of both the Tekin and Nosram Pearl v2.
The Nosram is pretty much fit and forget, very smooth and easy to get on with. The Tekin is a little more aggressive initially, but can be tailored to your own tastes and preferences with the Hotwire. Both great speedo's, but the Tekin edges it for me :) |
Thanks guys for your replies
Still cant make my mind up which 1 to get, i was leaning towards the tekin but if it's not that smooth i better have a rethink as my driving would deffo benefit from a smooth delivery :D |

Have you looked at the Vampire Racing SR1 or SR1+. I use the SR1 with a 6.5T and it is really smooth with a few nice setup features. Don't think you can plug it into a laptop though. I also have the SP GT2 and Nosram Pearl v2 and both are great speedo's. As said previously the SP is a little on the large side for some installations.

There will be a PC option very soon for the SR1 series, but the obvious question is why? There really is no need to hook it up to the PC to get the very best from it, far simpler that way too, when most parmaeters you are likely to want to change can be done on the unit itself...... |
I'd recommend the Orion. I have 4 of them and they're awesome. I run them in 2 and 4wd and 4wdsc and all perform faultlessly.
|
cant recommend the orion r10 pro enough. super smooth power delivery, reliable and looks:D
|
Orion R10 for me too. Nice small footprint and sexy grey anodising.
|
Orion R10
|
+ 1 For the vampire stuff, Really smooth and great power delivery, definitely better than my old speed passion gear.
|
Thanks to everyone for the replies, much appreciated
Have gone for a viper vtx10 :D i do like the fact you can plug the progauge in without having to disconnect the esc from the receiver, the 365 day warranty is another nice touch from viper  as is that dam sexy colour :wub Tempted to get the vega chassis anodised to match |
