M05-M06
Im quite interested in getting an M06 since I can never get my M05 to keep up with any of the others (yes, I know that it is largely due to my crap driving skills!)
I had a chat with Adam/Danny last night re the differences between M05 and M06 (which are quite obvious!!), however I didn't realise that many of the parts are the same (transmission, hubs, bearings etc) between to 2 cars. On looking through the manual it seems like to upgrade an M05-M06 you only need parts bags A, B, D and E. Just been on Ebay and can buy all of this (inc P&P) for £30 |
Its not quite that simple, there are other parts required like the shock hinge pins on the rear, battery posts to hold down the battery strap and different rear hubs (not the 3racing with multiple positions as link angle is wrong).
But if you're struggling with an M05 then you don't want a 6 as they take quite a bit of setting up and even when setup right are a lot more twitchy to drive. Also you have to drive differently as its rwd. If you do decide to change it DONT set it up as medium wheel base as it has a terrible swinging effect so the shortwheel base is quicker on the 6. |
@chris i recently got a m06 cheap off ebay. Just finished rebuilding it as soon as I get a suitable lipo ill bring it down west bridgeford.

RE the battery strap stays - I may have to break out the trusty dremel! Do the std M05 plastic rear hubs fit the M06? although I use the 3racing ones on my M05 I do still have the original ones |

as you know i have my m06 , have had an mo3 and m05 , and soon after running the m06 , i decided i would never go back to the 5 .. my m06 is really easy to drive , ( even with brushless / but on a smooth punch setting ) is'nt twitchy atall , and i acually found it easyer with the medium w/b ... , just somethimes can be a little lazy throu chicanes !! |
Get the M04 mate and give your thumbs a workout. Mine was great in the twisty bits but trying to hold it in a straight line was the problem :thumbsup:.

M06 has the same rear hinge pins as the m05. Think you have been looking at the m06 pro version which is different.
|
Bits arrived today and conversion is now complete.
M06 has adjustable camber front and rear unlike m05 and does require longer camber links. Fortunately I had some spare "short" turnbuckles in my kit, otherwise not a bad conversion for £30! Another plus is that the body mounts are in exactly the same position so an existing shell can be used without cutting extra holes - even the Hpi Honda Civic shell fits (just!!!) |

More bits have arrived for my homemade chassis today- just need to finalise how the Yokomo YR4 wishbones and dampers connect to the Kyosho ZX5 hubs and the Tamiya M02 gearbox and front end - oh and not to mention the homemade carbon and ballraced steering plate, grp battery tray and shock towers! I kid you not...

M06
I just purchased a m06 kit from Dave and was wondering if a squared of turnigy lipo would fit.
Also some advise as to which wheelbase to build it |
Hi James, yes square LIPOs will fit.
Re wheelbase, it depends what body you run. I think most seem to go for medium, although that could be due to there being more bodies to choose from for this wheelbase - did you get the kit with a body or just the roller? I noticed Dave had a Lancia Stratos shell in stock |
M06
Yes just bought as a kit no shell and yes he bought it to tease me. But not sure what shell to get either..
I have been told I need to get upgraded bearings b4 I build it.. |
Ball bearings are a must, although these are for an M05, they will fit the M06:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-M05...item3a6bb1c0e2 I would also recommend a HPI shell - the abuse mine has taken over the last few weeks and still no splits! The Tamiya shells are more detailed but crack more easily |
M06
Thanks mate I was looking at those bearings but wondered if I would need to buy the shields aswell.....
Can't seem to find any shells onebay either |
