Nitro Engine dies when take glow plug off
 

Hi all

Its been a long time since I ran an RC car and the last ones I bought were off a mate so already run in.

Running in my Losi 8ight, took me best part of 8 hours to get the thing going and ran 1 tank through then it died when I topped it up.

Now I can get it going again but it dies as soon as I take the glow plug off, whether in 30 seconds or three minutes?

It's a brand new engine?
Do you have set the carburator?
What engine is it?

Normally when it dies when you take the glow off its because it's get to much fuel / stationary is set to low...

Try to set it a little bit leaner or set the stationary a little bit higher ...

Lean off a little and turn tick over up.

You need a new glow plug.

It could be many things..

Blown Plug
Idle to low
Needs leaning up a touch.

I would check, and make sure all the needles are to factory settings. Then lean the Top end quarter of a full turn. And adjust the tick over as a lot of engines factory needle settings are too rich. Check your glow plug, take it out and place it in the glow ignitor. Make sure its fully charge-(Glow Starter) and that the filament is glowing bright. And use a heat gun or a RC Sure-Start to warm up the engine before starting-Makes life 100x easier.

If you still have no luck,let me know or take it to a local track or hobby shop. And get someone to have a look at it for you.

Thanks folks. I did what was reccomended. I put some black marker on a screwdriver then wound the low speed needle back in then unscrewed 4 turns as per the instructions. I then leaned it another half turn and increased the idle and that did the trick so thanks folks.

Thats 2.5 taks run thorugh it now so should be time to have a gentle go on the ground

(as per the question above, its the Losi 350 engine that comes with the 8ight)

Its a great way to help aid starting your engine-specially in the winter, and will help your engine's lifespan. I have been running 1/8th for over 2 years, and it has been one of the best buys so far. And has many top driver's backing the product!!

One thing I would do is change the plug straight away,no matter what other of the abouve tricks you try,

I did test the plug in the starter and worked ok. I have got it going intermittantly now so I will try one of the sure starts in time, when I have nother £130 for one and the battery to run it.

A plug can glow when tested,and register os good on your glow start, but that dosn't mean the plug is working as it should,may not be gettting hot enough etc,
If you have been leaving the glow start connected for long periods of time trying to start this can damage the plug. It's the 1st thing I change as soon as my engine starts to play up.

also check that you are running the correct plug for the nito content of the fuel you are running,another thing I fell foul of many time's over the years:blush:

Cheers for the tips Dave. I will pick up some new plugs just incase. I got everything from JE so I am sure Woody will give me the correct onces for my 25%. Thanks

The Losi 350 engine is tight from new, heat up with a hair dryer first, get it running around the track, give it a little gas each time and lean of a little every tank, just make sure the engine don't get too hot.
