RC8.2 or 8ight 2.0 EU?

Hi

Question: Which car out of 2 (or maybe 3) to get?

Choice: I have read reviews of both the Associated RC8.2 which have all been excellent, and of course the Losi 8ight is a proven and popular machine.

Backup: I like associated kits and parts for both the AE and Losi cars are fairly available to me locally so parts are not much of an issue.

Price: AE being around £70 more but thats not a massive issue to me

Intent: To start racing at clubs like Preston and Pendle etc

To make matters worse, I could say that the Xray 808 is an option but with the XB9 about to drop anytime soon I'd be miffed if I bought that and 5 weeks later the XB9 came out haha

Thanks for your advice

I'd spend a morning or so at both clubs chatting to local drivers about what they're running and what works well on their track.

The trouble on here is everyone will say what they drive and how brilliant it is because it's their car. If you get either of the ones you mention and turn up and start racing, break something on the first qualifier and everyone else is running Mugen, Kyosho or Agama you won't be able to get much help. Also set up tips will be lacking. Therefore I'd get to the club and have a chat with the local guys that know the track and race every week.

Good point

Tis a good point you make I guess. Like I am able to give credit to a musician etc even if I dont like the music, I guess fanboyism comes into all aspects of things.

I just looked at pendles next race meeting on the 22nd, and so far 6 have signed up, 50% of those six are running RC8.2's so thats maybe some indication. The other 3 are a Mugen, Hong Nor and JQ.

I will wait until the list grows and pay a visit etc. Cheers for the pointer.

Let us know what you end up getting, it might help someone else out in your situation. I noticed there is a review in the current Radio Race Car magazine by Terry Atkins on the new AE RC8.2, it might highlight a few points for you ?

Radio Race Car

Oh really? That's great thank you. I'll see I i can order one off the net as that's the only way I can get RCRacer magazine as no one stocks it near me. THanks for the heads up

Hi ive raced an eu around pendle several times and they are very good but at the min a fair few of the pendle members are running the 8.2 and they fly round the track. Both are good cars so i recon its a case of where you shop to get bits from and which you like the look of. I was looking into running an 8.2 but got offered the new hong nor at a good price so loking forward to seeing how that runs.

rcdunk 13-01-2012 01:24 PM

if your running at pendle dave crompton is a team driver for assoicated driving the 8.2 so there will be no lack of back up support spares or set up advice

It's not RC RACER mag it's Radio Race Car - LINK it's even got it on the cover :)

Layloo9136 13-01-2012 04:29 PM

@eyeayan - No I know its not that magazine, was just saying its like RC Racer in that I can't get either of them round here so will have to get off the net - so thanks

@rcdunk - really? Thats handy to know thanks. Maybe he can get them cheaper haha ;0)

@johnboy - the HN does look a nice car and could also be an option so would love to hear what you think

Choices

Well I have eliminated the Xray, simply because I'd be miffed if the X9 came out so soon. So from what I am now reading it is between the RC8.2, 8ight EU or the Hong Nor X3

Off to PRCC in Blackpool on Sunday to see what's running there, then I will go to Pendle the following week and see Mr Associated.

All good fun

Did you look at the Agama ?

Layloo9136 14-01-2012 12:20 AM

Agama

I did yes thank you, but I ruled it out due to my local place not stocking either the car or the parts which for ease of operation, is a bit of a no no.

The other three are quite heavily supported at my local store hence why they are contendors.

Ayeayan Paint

WOW - just looked at your thread! The blue shell with the Arai logo on and the Agama ones are stunning! Very impressive mate.

Better than my single colour talentless specials haha

eyeayen 14-01-2012 10:42 AM

That fair enough about the Agama, and good to see someone wanting to support their local store !

Re my paintwork, thank you. Give me a shout if you want paint at any point :)

I got a Losi 2.0

Well people - I plumped for my car today and I went for the Losi 8ight. I did however have to settle for the RTR kit - to buy everything seperate for the EU was just going to be too much for me all in one go, and I can keep upgrading as I go along or just buy a better car months down the line. Also the Spektrum receiver was too much to miss out on - if I was going to get an EU I was going to have to buy that as well and at £158 on top I thought sod it - may as well get the RTR for now and I can sell my spektrum DX3E set up complete and unused.

I did plump for an extra bulldog bodyshell though which I think Mr eyeayan can paint for me :)

eyeayen 17-01-2012 05:34 PM

:woot: woohoo another 8th shell, I like 8th shells :D

That's a cool kit even if it is a RTR, you get everything you need to start. The only think I'd say to upgrade for now if you can is the Steering and Throttle Servo's. Savox are good and widely used, plenty of others are great too, Ace, HiTech, KO. They come up on here quite regularly.

The rest is fine out of the box, and as you've said you can upgrade. Great starting platform to learn from too !

Keep us all posted how you get on ! And obviously some pictures when I've done your shell

eyeayen 17-01-2012 05:36 PM

Oh yeah, get onto John at RC Sure Start (CLICKY) and get a sure start, so much easier especially in the cold weather.

tinny 17-01-2012 09:58 PM

Layloo9136 17-01-2012 10:55 PM

@eyeayan - Sure start hey? Never seen that before - had seen the material engine warmers but not those so I'll take a deeper thanks :)
