Split second lipo short !

I'm so annoyed at myself, lol

Bought 2 new hard case 5000Mah 40c stick packs today, whilst connecting one to my charger i stupidly connected the charge/balance lead to the battery 1st, then before i'd connected the other end into the charger allowed the lead's + & - to touch, it was a fraction of a second but i still heard it. No other symptoms, no heat, smoke etc. I decided to charge it up whilst keeping a watchful eye, it was 7.7v when i started (from the shop) & it finished at 8.41v. No swelling or indication of damage.

Have i got away with it or is it now doomed ?

should be fine happens more often than you'd think to people,

for high capcity Lipo, that would be ok, just think of it as a sudden burst of throttle, but for those tx batts, that will tell the end of it. as i have busted 3 tx batts already... huhuhuhuh

Lots of us have been there and done this, you should be fine, big Lipos do seem pretty durable.

my balance leads are black and I accidentally connected the neg 1st and then the pos thinking the neg was the balance connection lol.

you should try doing it with 14.8v setup, my arse whistled :woot:

I've done it on a 2S lipo in the car.. caps got a little hot and heatshrink began to melt before I removed the lead... everything fine.

Cool, those comments have put my mind at rest  (goes home to find house burnt down, lol)

I've marked the battery that shorted as i bought 2 together so i'll keep my eye on it to make sure it behaves for a while.

Cheers.

try letting the ends touch on 22.2V, i did it when unplugging pack from my 1/8, 6mm corally style connector virtually evaporated, was seeing white spots for ages!!

LOL must have made you jump mate:lol:

I shorted my 6cell pack for my T-rex500 through my side cutters some time ago,was changing the connectors, cut one wire at a time, but the + touched the cutter as I was doing the - side...made me jump about 3ft out of my seat with fright:lol:,now have big burn mark in side cutters, pack was fine tho
