Can I pick somebody's brains as to how big (amps) a supply I would need to power up a tyre truer. I'm fed up of having to drag a car battery out when I want to do some truing in the garage.

Is there any data on the device or on the 'net about it, current or power rating?

Failing that, is there a fuse anywhere in it that will give you a clue about it's current draw?

my huddy tyre truer will start up on my ripmax 20amp psu, but some times i have to hwelp it start, the problem is not in running em but getting the motor to start spining

The easy answer is to buy a cheap car or caravan battery.
Always useful as a spare anyway and a lot cheaper than a suitable ps.

If you have a spare PC that is not being used, you can use the PSU and get will be able to juice out more that 55Watts and 20 more Amps (depending on the type, ATX, AT) and you will have a +3, +5 and +12V regulated PS for your Charger and also for your Truer... you can search google for the schematics on what wire you will need and also to do to get those voltages.

I run a 3 racing truer straight off a muchmore 20 amp power master. The main problem is the current required to start the truer, once running the current drops off until you load the motor up again.
Only problem with truers is if you are also charging cells at the same time is they can tend to 'trip' chargers off and then reset. Only cure is to have a large capacitor bank on the output side of the power supply this will also help to start truers with that initial kick.
