SHAFT or BELT Will it end the same way touring did?

What are peoples opinions on the subject? I once raced touring cars and at the time the 12 turn limit was lifted, this resulted in all the shaft drive cars dying off as the instant power of the 7/8 turn motors where too much and brushless has only made it worse, The reason i ask is that i'm trying to decide to keep my 511 or go back to the ZX5 fs2.

Ahh, now if you go back you know I'm going to say told you so:lol:.

as i remember in tc shaft drive gave too much torque steer, in off road shaft seems to be the populare way. as torque steer is less noticable

shaft

in my opinion 1/10th buggies should be shaft driven,i have 2 buggies - b44 and a mr4bx.
and the bx though it has covers and an undertray it still manages to get a stone in the drivetrain and its a sod to work on compared to the b44.
no problems with b44 so far.
belts look a little 'messy'

in touring cars belt drive is i would say better because the car is lighter and smoother.
buggies should be shaft driven.

belts to me have always been a nicer drive however shaft jusst seems a little more direct on the track

Tamiya as a manufacture sit on the fence a little on this one, with the 511 and the 502. The question being which one do the team use the majority of the time.......

If belts are good enough for Lee to get the results he does, then they are good enough for just about anyone else on here. Certainly for UK tracks anyway. Always that temptation to change cars and try something new though. Im as guilty as anyone else for that !

Someone should do a DB0X showdown:thumbsup:
DB01 belt drive vs DB02 shaft drive - same suspension, chassis construction and layout, just different drive methods. See which is quicker!:woot:

ideas

that would be a great experiment jimmy

Keep your 511

The torque steer issue pretty much disappeared with the appearance of brushless motors. The light, small-diameter rotors have much less torque steer effect than a large/heavy brushed armature.

Shaft is even successful again in TC with the Awesomatix.

They are both great cars! you wont go wrong with either.
The main benifit of shaft nowadays apart from better power response is they are much easier to maintain.

As someone who has had shaft and belt Touring cars and Buggys this is my biggest plus for shaft cars.:wub
