Anyone got any ideas as to why when I try and upload my SQL rar'd backup file (which is 116mb total) it uploads only 46mb and then stops?

jimmy 08-03-2008 11:07 PM

when you say 'upload' do you mean you're uploading it via FTP? or are you uploading it via some sort of mySQL interface? or....?

I found it impossible to restore my database any other way than using ssh

c0sie 08-03-2008 11:13 PM

SSH?

Im using the 'Upload a MySql back up' feature within the CPanel that i use. After 46mbish it just says that it is done..when it obviously isnt!

Whats SSH Jimmy?

c0sie 08-03-2008 11:25 PM

Ok..ive found out that Putty is an SSH...so I downloaded it..and I have NO idea what to enter into any of the boxes.

Help anyone :'(

frogger 08-03-2008 11:45 PM

Cris, SSH is nothing more than a different way (secure shell) to connect to your server so you will need to connect using an SSH client and then copy your database using a normal copy command of your server (different for Windows\Linux\etc.). Putty does nothing more than make the secure connection.

c0sie 08-03-2008 11:46 PM

Apparently my host doesnt do SSH :(

Ive sent them a ticket explaining...

What a load of bullocks..

probably something they can unlock / enable for you? I think it's the best (only??) way to restore large backups like yours. Mine was over 200 meg last time I restored it! uploading that much via a browser just isn't gonna happen.

I think this is the shell command that's used

mysql -h localhost -u databaseuser -p databasepassword <name_of_your_backup.sql

I've used putty to ssh and restore a database so lemme know if you get any joy from your hosts and need any help - I'm no expert but I've done it before is all.

Thanks for your help mate, ill let you know what happens and if the hosts sort me out :)
