My old Kyosho Ultima Pro from 1987.
 

A new body, some new tires, and it almost looks brand new. No electronics yet, except for a receiver, but I might get a cheap brushless HobbyKing setup.

The underside of the chassis is terribly scratched. It was used a lot when I was a kid, and I don't think I ever broke anything.

Thats one very nice looking ultima, are you sure thats not a turbo ultima? yep a cheap brushless sensored setup would work great with it, but dont go more than 10.5T, i find that it is more than enough even for my optima mid.

The body is a real pain to remove and install.

Yeah I loved the Ultima Pro back in the day. When I had a job in ABC hobbies (and a junior type sponsorship) they offered me a new car. I was dieing to get an Ultima as I had been racing my original Optima for a while and wanted to step into a 2WD back then. The 'PRO' wasn't far off but I wanted a car right then and there so I took the Turbo Ultima that they had in stock. I was happy enough with the car but should have held out for the Pro. Actualy the Pro XL was even better I think and that would have been the car to be driving back then I reckon.
I have since built up a Pro XL and the car is soo good to drive. Even with a low turn mod the car was easy to handle and found it to be well planted even at speed, Im no expert with 2WD and my driving is made esasier with this car.
They are all classics in my eyes :thumbsup:

dude, you should get someone to record a video of your ultima in action, would love to see it negotiate a modern track ! i want to do that to for my optima mid, but still cant find soemone to record a video for me.

on another note, when i bought my optima mid ball diff gear WBD-3 years ago, it came with the rear pulley for the optima mid and ultima. Now i have a brand new Ultima rear diff pulley, is there anyone out there who has the extra optima mid gear ball diff pulley, want to swap it with me ?

Thanks to oli4ke I now have a new chassis plate, and I don't want to scratch it up like the old one. I think I will try to make a lexan undertray before I try to drive my car around a track.

it's easier to use chassis protector (though yes: bigger to clean the glue once it goes to the shelves)
