I do like a good wankel...

The rotary engines are great, it's a shame they've effectively banned them from Le Mans now (stuck about a 100kg weight penalty on all rotary cars)

It sounded like my 406 when it starts up on 3 cylinders when its cold, but then it got sexy and sounded like a nitro engine:thumbsup:

Here are some nice sounding racing cars:

Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PPTAv9t36IE

Ford Mondeo Supertouring http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=s9YRadO8NP8

Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OnyERN...eature=related http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sLOBwn...eature=related

Citroen C2 S1600 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0vZtlLgKpd8

The Ascari that topped the TG power laps board sounded ACE! But you cant beat a TVR straight 6 when its on all cylinders and working.

MRD 10-03-2008 07:24 PM

V8 all the way. My mate had a TVR Griffith 500 with the 5.0 V8 and boy did that thing make a nice noise. Now he's got a TVR Sagaris with a 4.0 Straight 6 and it sounds awsome but not quite as good as the v8. 400 bhp though.

Audi Sport Quattro, a giant turbo with a small 5 cylinder engine bolted to it

Or how about the old BRM H16 (two V8's on top of each other) F1 engine from the late 60's? Supercharged 1500cc (yes 1.5 litres!) with over 600bhp :o

this is my fav, just remebered it with this thread. 2,500 BHP, the car actually lifts off of the dyno.

The only thing you can hear is the air going into the engine lol, holy crap look at the turbo :D

Ah yes, the BRM H16 - there was an answer to a question no one asked! Total over-engineering just to show what we Brits could do (we used to have an Empire dontchaknow) even though everybody else did it faster, simpler and much much much more reliably. You could draw a parallel with the Tamiya Hotshot!

Spoolio 10-03-2008 08:18 PM

Just realised that when I try to take a tugga toy off my beagle, she growls and it sounds like a race tuned small block Chevy being blipped! Cool :woot:.

gramey 10-03-2008 09:12 PM

:thumbdown:Sorry but the Mazda and F1 engine sound like the Suzuki GSXR 750 I had with it's Micron race pipe.
The Audi S1 quattro sounds cool but as our colonial cousins like to say, there's no substitute for cubes. Now if you can have your cubes and like the sound of wastegate whistling then this is the engine for you........

I rest my case!

That does sound class for what it is.

Welshy40 10-03-2008 09:44 PM

An old 30 year old Touring car Racing Jaguar with a 5.7 Litre bored out engine, and four exhaust pipes each as big as a two litre bottle diametre.

My mate fitted a spare seat in the roll caged car and the 150 mile fuel tank and my shoes melted on the foot well due to the engine touching it.

When we pulled up at a village on the outskirts of Lemans all the Lambo drivers, Maclaren drivers (and that cars sounds wonderful at speed) 1927 Pole position Bentley driver all came out and wondered what we were in as they could hear us over half a mile away. The noise was superb!!!!

Also we blew a 355 ferrari away from standstill in a car that weighs a hell of a lot more, and the ferrari drivers face was a picture.

http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gifOnly good for a straight line and no good on the road but what a sound.........

gramey 11-03-2008 08:46 PM

http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gifIf you prefer your aural pleasure to come from a screaming rotary then I don't suppose they come too much better than this.......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt-sK...eature=related

Car looks really cool but personally I still prefer the rumble of a V8.
