X2C Cooling

Hi Guys,

I installed a SpeedPassion 6.5T motor in my X2C and after the first few runs I realised that this motor runs at a much higher temperature than the one I had used. Have you guys done any mods (holes, slits, etc) to the shell to keep the motor & ESC cool?
I would be glad to see some pics, but any advice would be apreciated.

Cheers

Las

I run kit spur and pinion on my x2c no problems with heat at all. That's with a orca motor

Thanks for the reply. It's not that it is getting too hot, but it's more like to stay on the safe side. If you take a look at Losi22 os Schumacher Cougar shells, both provide a smart solution for airflow, not like the X2C.

Cheers

If its too warm for you go down a tooth on the pinion. This should sort your problem. I run a sp v3 7.5 in mine with standard spur and 22t pinion and I have no probs.

i ran a 6.5 LRP x12 which get hot and aint had a problem,
1. what gearing are you running?
2. what speedo and are you running boost with it
also check that the motor isnt advanced

Some of our guys that run blinky 17.5 need extra cooling to run higher gearing.

They use something like this

I personally dont like the use of cooling fans as i feel that they give false readings

You need to gear the 6.5 down a bit really. I ran one in my X6sq and it used to run quite hot. I think I used to run it on 22/78 on my X6 if it helps

Same here... kit spur and pinion on my 6.5 motor in the X2C and no problems to speak of so far (touch wood! :))

I appreciate your answers guys, but like I said it is NOT about gearing, my question is about modding the shell. Any ideas or pictures?

stumpiey 24-12-2011 04:24 PM

i hear what your saying, but i dont think iv seen anyone feel the need to mod a shell, but if you feel the need, just drill a series of 4mm holes just above the end bell on the shell.

Tom3012 24-12-2011 04:31 PM

Shouldnt really be a problem? I run a SP 6.5 in mine, 23/81... Never gets too hot... If yor planning on cutting holes in your shell just make sure you dont make them too big, the BRCA wont like it!

On a side note what condition are the motor connectors in? If these are old/worn the resistance could cause a build up of heat... Just a thought!

Ive got 6.5 orca in mine, kit spur 23pinion i think? dont seem too get very hot but did cut the rear end of the motor side window half moon sort of shape.

brooksy 24-12-2011 08:00 PM

Double post!.

brooksy 24-12-2011 08:01 PM

If its not about gearing and its not about it getting too hot its pretty much a pointless question don't you think?.

If its only getting slightly warm and its nothing your concerned about its pointless putting holes in your shell.

stumpiey 24-12-2011 08:52 PM

i geared my 6.5 at 10.95 (19t pinion) and the speedo was set in blinky mode, check the end bell that it hasnt been advanced, out of intrest what sort of temps is it getting to ?

What do you mean "false readings"?

stumpiey 24-12-2011 09:05 PM

it's cos you take a reading of the outside of the can, where the internal temp will be almost double,
ie do, one run temp it at say 60c do another and you can find it reading over the 100c mark.
best thing to do if you run a fan is temp it after a run, leave it for 5 mins then temp it again and see what temp you have, that will give you a much better idea what is going on.
hope this helps

It would be great if you could share a picture of what it looks like!

Will get one for you tomo if not then the day after.

And if the previous comment from brooksy is aimed at me, reason was trying to sort a previous fault which ended up being the brand new speed controller being broken.
