Issue assembling DEX210 gearbox
I am having a slight problem assmebling the gearbox on my new 210 kit.
I am building it MM4 and i am stuggling to get the two shafts through the bearings in the two idler gears. It's appears that either the bearings are slightly too small or the shaft is too large. Here are the two gears : http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...o/66cb3e68.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...o/4a4fdeda.jpg I have checked everything and i'm sure there is no way i could have used the wrong parts but this is clearly not right. I have managed to get one of them about 95% through but in the even that a gear fails there is no chance i will ever be able to remove the shaft or bearings. Has anyone else experienced this issue ? I have never heard of that problem before. I would get a set of vernier calipers and measure the idler axle and also measure the inside of the bearings and then give TD a call. There is a sticky post in the TD area giving the opening times over the Christmas period. It may well be that the idler shafts have been over anodized and therefore are a very tight fit.

The tolerences of these two are very fine - both pins and bearings. I'd drop TD a line to sort it out but as a quick fix you could try all the bearings in the kit on the shafts and see if you can get four to fit over the idler shafts and use those in the idlers until you can get some replacement pins.

I had the same problem with my 210. I pushed a bit harder and it worked.

As a quick fix you could mount the pins in a electric drill and with fine abrasive paper, reduce the diameter slightly. Use water on the paper. It doesn't take long.

I have now visited my local friendly Durango dealer and he has confirmed that the layshafts are indeed slightly oversized.
I now have some more layshafts that are perfect ! Thanks for the help (except you Mark !) |
