Advice for 13.5t brushless. Brca legal.
I'm just getting back into touring cars and would like to update my esc and motor to brushless.
I'm looking at updating the esc to a hobbywing extreme stock on recomendation from members at the local club. I don't know however which motor to buy. I wish it to be brca legal as may enter a championship next year and don't want to have to buy new ones all the time. Any ideas or experiance will be appreciated. Pedders |
Hobbywing extream stock is a very good speedo for the money you can't touch it. One thing I will advise is to buy yourself the 4 pot power cap and put that on stright away, it improves brakes and the 2 pot that comes with the speedo tends to blow up and every1 I've seen has done this.
Motors I would look at the lrp x12 for the most performance but it dise tend to get very hot, the gm motor is fast and stays much cooler but not quite as fast. I would personally not go near Ye speedpassion motor as grtting performance out of these is very hard and Neva as fast as the other motors on the market My personal views but from Doing 10th nationals this year that's what we found |
This is the homologation list...
http://www.brca.org/sites/default/fi...011G%20pdf.pdf I think I am right in saying 13.5 will not be a national championship class for 2012, it will be 10.5 only. |
hw xtreme stock good esc or other options are orca or the new team powers esc motor wise i would go for thunder power or team powers as they are both good value for money and u car find them both on http://www.team-powers.co.uk/

I have seen some people using the team powers motors being used with the HW speedo so yes i would agree with that one :) |
Thanks will have a look at these. Yeah I do understand they are only running 10.5 for brca but most clubs look at those rules for 13.5 and this seems to be most popular at clubs I have looked at.
|
Also with the lrp. Is it running hot a massive problem if it is a quick motor. Need to improve driving though as this is where I will make most time up.
|
Yea lots of clubs do seem to like 13.5 which seems odd to me when 10.5 in the national class but o well
Well the LRP will run hotter than any other motor and seems to not mind, outside coming off at 90-100 is about standard but can go up to about 130 degrees C without any problems. The only thing with it gettin so hot is that the magnet gets weaker faster the hotter it gets so the rotor will get weaker faster than other types of motor but this can be allowed for in speedo setup so not a major problem. |
The LRP motors are popular at our club and do run hotter than other motors.
Temperatures would probably only become a concern if you use whole packs for long durations. The 5 min races we do never seem to concern them. |

Sorry but I can't agree with that, Getting a lrp motor to come off after a run (5mins) at less than 90 is doing well. I guess mayb if you running blinky they might not get hot possibly but outdoors and with timing they get hotter than you can touch. Or mayb I'm pushing them harder to be compettitive at large national events but they always seem hot. But honestly they are very good. Another Motor possibly is the reedy sonic they look very gd not as hot as lrp but hav good pace |
Oh they do get hot but not to the point that it causes issues in a 5 min race. I'm not doubting the temperatures are hot!
|
Thank you for all the input. Will keep my eye out for any deals on these motors. At £85 they don't come cheap. But at least they last unlike the brushed motors without matinance.
|
Yep motors are not cheap but if you get a second hand one from a known person who's looked after it you can't go wrong, possibly not a sexond hand lrp as it could of seem some extreme temps which would degrade the rotor but that's my feelings.
Happy buying and let us know what you gone for. |
Thanks for all the help. I have managed to get an lrp off a forum member and am looking forward to trying it. Will get the hobby wing esc at the end of jan after pay day and hope to run the package in feb.
Can someone give me a timing recommendation. It has come with the 4 dots on show. This will be run in an X-ray tc. |
Any ideas???
|
leave it at 4 dots untill you get to grips with the esc and you know what temps its running at.

Boost around 20deg
Turbo timing 13deg Turbo slope 3 Start rpm about 8000 0.2 turbo delay. That's what I ran on mine indoors at ardent at the weekend and was coming off about 90-100 which for a lrp isn't a problem. This is with the latest 211 hobbywing softwear :-) |

You don't say what FDR? I have been running a little more boost than that, 30 and coming off at about 75°C with an FDR of 8.0. By the way latest software is 930stock but I think 211 is better if anything. Nick |

Yea i no people are running higher around 26deg i started at but was to hot so took abit off, ive seen people running over 30 and coming off at 80c but ive found with the LRP motor its very dependent on the strnegth of the magnet, weaker the mag the cooler it runs but the more timing needed so if ur Rotor is fairly old u'll need more timing to get the same performance. could i ask what your running? I may be wrong but this is whats ive found, ran the same settings on my 10.5 and it was rapid even turned up the boost and stayed cooler than the 13.5 which confused me rather. O is there a new one? could i ask whats different about it? i cant find it on the HW site could someone send me the link? |
for value for money i would go for thunder power or team powers you can find them both here http://www.team-powers.co.uk/ both work well hw xtreme stock you could also have a look at the new team powers esc as well
