LiPo overdischarge cutoff/fuse?

Hi everyone,

After the recent issues I had with my car (battery shorted, fuse in the battery blew up), I was wondering two things:

1. What brands/batteries have some kind of fuse/PCB/weak link designed into it to give way safely when the battery gets a short circuit? (I know Team Orion have a PCB acting as a fuse to stop potentially getting a big boom - and possibly also preventing busted ESCs).

2. Are there compact fuses that interrupt at peaks of say 200-300A (at 7.4v) (depending on the battery's peak capacity of course), so I can put on my car between the battery and the ESC? If it's possible it would make sure I don't fry the electronics or battery without relying on the safety features that render the battery useless after doing it's work - unless you open it up. Of course this fuse must have the least possible effect on the resistance, or it could compromise performance.

Thanks for your help,
Paul

Why dont you just reroute one of you wires from the speedo to the battery so its impossible to reach the wrong terminal. A lot of racers do this.

Clever solution for the problem of connecting it the wrong way around :) Yet I'd like a second level of protection if it's not a big problem finding the right parts. I don't have a lot of money, so it's worthwhile investing in a few euros for a fuse instead of ending up with a puff of smoke and dead electronics

Anyway, I found that besides Team Orion, Vampire Racing also have a PCB acting as a fuse.

Use Deans Connectors....
