New to the cougar
Having just bought a 2nd hand cougar sv pro off here,im looking for some insider info please guys...
What are worthwhile spares to carry? Any niggly issues? Stock shock pistons work well indoor? I see some 5 hole listed on mk racing Any advice apreciated |
Ive just bought one myself and done about 2 / 3 meetings and nothing seems very weak. Id just grab the obvious like wishbones, hubs etc
Spoke to a few team drivers though and they suggest the 4mm lower front shock tower and steel idler gears if its not an 2011. |
I've not broken anything suspension wise so far, but as said above go for the steel idlers and check the gearbox bearings regularly.
I cut the middle out of the rear shock diaphrams and it made a huge positive difference to the handling. Just got the stock pistons in which seem fine. Absolutely love driving my Cougar indoors and out, stunning car |
The Cougar is really good piece of kit. Pretty bullit proof, as has been mentioned before, just the usual spares like wishbones, shock towers, hub carriers. I run mine with the kit astro set up on our track at Dublin, only difference would be a 90g under lipo weight. Just helps settle the car down a bit. Hope you have fun driving it.

You won't need spare wishbones. I'd just get some steering arms, front caster blocks and rear hub carriers, but you won't be breaking anything very often unless you crash heavily & regularly!

Might be a good idea to carry a spare front bulkhead, not so much for you crashing, more for if somebody hits you head on. I found the shock tower is stronger than the bulkhead. The bulkhead will snap at the shock tower mounting points.
I know this as I got hit by a stray car that had jumped lane when I was at 'full tilt' on the straight. He hit me head on in the blink of an eye :o My car finished the race and I only noticed the bulkhead had snapped when I got home. She's a strong car  |
Agree with sunbeam - I also had my front link mount broken by an oncoming car last week. But this was a bit of a freak accident to be honest.
