Right, tempted to get one of these after having one of the first kits out, many moons ago.... so, without being silly, suggestions, what kit, shell and I will want the diff to.

It all depends on what class you are wanting to race.
There are Hotrod and Superdave Circuit ( Non contact).

Then you have Mini and Saloon Stock, Stock cars, Bangers, Reliant Circuit ( Full contact in most classes ). Hotrod Circuit ( Non contact ).

There are other classes but the ones above are the main classes.

Well you could build your own or there is the old V12 VRX ( Alloy chassis ) or the NEW and much better VRXCE ( GRP chassis )

does the CE come with a diff?
