Gonky 14-11-2011 11:57 AM

I read in another thread that Lipbitz does bearings, think they were rated abec 5 although have to wade through a lot of rubbish posts in there!

jimmyfish 14-11-2011 12:00 PM

No his are cheap chinese rubbish, abec 3.

I am after the best.

Cheers tho

bigred5765 14-11-2011 12:05 PM

well in that case you'll want abec 9 as 9 is greater than 1-3 or 5 :)

jimmyfish 14-11-2011 12:08 PM

Ah, well where to i get them LOL

Cardnim 14-11-2011 12:22 PM

Email boca bearings in the states.
If u want the best in the biz boca are the only people to contact
But u will have to pay!!
Approx $200-300 dollars for a high end set but they will be as smooth as silk, require zero maintenance and last a lot longer than the car u put them in
One of my team mates has a set 5 seasons old and are still as good as the day they arrived!! And they have done many outdoor meets in mud and rain.
Only thing you do is wipe any mud etc off with a rag then dry the bearing with a piece if kitchen towel!!

Cardnim 14-11-2011 02:22 PM

5 seasons?!
Good grief, that would be incredible if they didnt drop any efficiency in that whole time.
Very attractive

steveproracing 14-11-2011 03:21 PM

They are genuinely that good!! Well worth the investment!!

Obviously disregard the bits about captainlip, but the rest makes perfect sense to me.

I have tried all singing, all dancing bearings from a range of market leading manufactures, SKF, NSK and INA. I have always found the cheaper end of the market to be better performing than the high end. I've spoken to SKF technical manager about this. The reason is in our application the super tght tolerances are a disadvantage. Dirt will get in, thats a fact, anyone who's done any racing and taken the wheels off will see dirt and crap wrapped round the axle, so we have to live with that fact. In the high end product the dirt gets in the bearing and on to the raceway but because of the tolerances being so tight the ball can't ride over it, the ball and raceway are both damaged by being forced to travel over the dirt. Add to that the dirt can't get out and the problem is compounded.

I'd be interested to know what brand the bearings you're suppling are. Any brand worth its salt, or producing high quality ABEC5 bearing will brand mark them. Makes sense, they are proud of their product so they put their name on it. In my experience only cheap chinese manufactures leave the bearings unmarked.

I now use run of the mill SKF or INA bearings, dependant on what we've got in stock. The metal shielded ZZ type are more efficient because the shield doesn't touch both raceways only normally the outer. The 2RS, or 2 rubber seal, type does contact both the outer and inner race and as such slows the bearing. Just for interest the best thing we can have is C3 bearings. The interal clearance is increased to allow for heat expansion, normally seen in electric motors. Most of our bearings fall into minatures and this isn't done but in some cars they do use popular metric (popmet) bearings and C3 clearance is available.

I hope someone might find this useful.

Another thing to consider is cleaning and re lubing the bearings after racing this really is worth its wait.
I guess because i'm sad but i used to careful remove the retaining spring clip and then the metal shield, give them a good clean and then re lube with bearing oil.
What i mean is that even if you get good bearings, if you treat them like bad bearings and let them run in a lube of water and dirt don't expect them to last. Would you run your real car until it ran out of oil and then blame the manufacturer for building a bad car?

The website CLEARLY states ABEC5 and not 3 like you claim, we have many many happy customers and none of them received Chinese bearings

How about some pictures of the actual bearings your selling, not the pictures you took from
http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/29352/ and used on your website.

simoncrabb 18-11-2011 09:40 AM

What's wrong with Chinese bearings?

We happily sell Chinese bearings!

We're impressed at how good they are!

Only had to change a couple of hub bearings after wet running in a couple of seasons.

Each to their own...
