how to convert a touring into a rally car

i was thinking of getting a touring car and convert it in to a rally car how should i do that

Well you want to raise the ground clearance to a minimum of 15mm by adding longer shocks. You also want to ensure that shrapnel from the road can't come in, so make a chassis cover.

You would also need to modify the suspension arms to cope with the extra height.

It's easier to buy an old tamiya ta01/02 or the mighty TB01 as they make good rally cars

alex97 13-11-2011 10:49 PM

I was going to use a Speed Passion RS1 Touring Car and put 60mm shocks and rase the the ride height and add rally tires

alex97 13-11-2011 10:51 PM

And I picked that car as it is cheap and so is the parts

qatmix 14-11-2011 03:16 PM

Looks like it will be a good candidate. As I mentioned before, just check the arms etc are not binding when you add the longer shocks.

Hi,
If you look in the ansmann thread,i converted a are-2 into a rally car.....really good car for this as it has metal diffs, and telescopic drive shafts........cut a bit of the chassis away for more down droop, and put longer ball joints on the bottom of the shocks..have about 30mm of ground clearance fully extended.....its a shame there is no where in the UK that does 1/10th rallying,or rallycross......would be a good, cheap class....

cheers simon

lochness42 15-11-2011 08:50 PM

Well czech guys race stage rallies and most common mods are - dremeled off droop bits on chassis, replacement of shocks for something slightly longer, dirt box and rally wheels

dodgydiy 15-11-2011 09:48 PM

200mm kit for a tc3 if you can find one, the car itself is cheap, albeit slightly old, but still makes a good rally weapon

No where near as good as the ultimate rally car.............the RS4 Rally is the one that set it all off and was the best, good ground clearance and good handling, probably next best was the Yokomo MR4 Rally and then the Tamiya TB-01 was a good cheap version !!!

Looks awesome drifting in a school playground with a light covering of snow ;)

Heres a rally clip..........

They are quite hard to find and if you do find one they are normally over £100...............

heres one in the USA

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HPI-RALLY-rs...item4cfbd9fce6

It says drifter in the listing but if you lookat the box it shows as a Rally car...............!!!

heres a Yokomo MR4 Rally on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/yokomo-mr4...item3f0ff50e1c

dont take any notice being listed as a touring car as it is definately the rally car version................!!!

Here you go,same as mine...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANSMANN-AR...item4842b459c2.

How does the Tamiya DF-03 RA rate? Might work out expensive compared to the RS-1/ARE-2/LRP Blast TC etc.

Mmmm in not sure about that being the 'rally' version steve the main give away is the shocks and towers , other differances are the bulkheads but no way can you tell them from the pic.

i think it is just the origanal mr4tc in your link

Heres a chance to show off mine, some of the tc parts are getting hard to find, some of the 'rally' parts are like rocking horse poo!

I would look for a Tamiya TB01 the only thing which made it second best to my rs4 was the weight. It was always much tougher. Now I have a brushless in one its my rally car of choice.

You can also get most parts for the tb01 quite easily... Although it doesn't seem to ever break :)

Steven Forster 17-11-2011 12:10 AM

Yeah thats definately an MR4 Rally, the rally version had a back bone which was screwed into and down the centre of the chassis which also had a clear cover protecting the belt, that and the other easiest give away is the servo location, the servo on the rally is stood upright and at an angle like in your pics...................:p

Rally

The MR4 TC (custom) had a laid down style top deck and servo was also laid down on its side with a little cut out in the chassis .............

Touring
