DEX210 Tyre Choice ???
 

Will be running my 210 in Mid Motor 4 Gear config for the first time in a Large indoor track, mainly slippy floor with about 40% carpet. Mini Spikes are normally the way to go, wondering if the softer siliver compound is worth trying over the usual yellow in 2WD. Also wondering if I'd be better using 4WD fronts on the normal DEX210 rim, or cut the rims down and use slim spikes up front. I have a set of staggers just now on cut down rims, which I use on a tight all carpet track, but I think spikes will be needed for the larger slippy floor track, any recommendations/advice would be great from anyone who has already run the 210 on a slippy indoor surface.

not run the 210 on slippery floor, but have run on slippery floor in 2wd (Losi 22)

Full Spikes are the way to go, failing that mini spike green/blue.

I've not tried them but I don't imagine silvers will be that good, I would also expect them to wear VERY quickly. The only time I've ever tried greens on slippy floor they were appauling. Never had the please of full spike though they are THE tyre on floor but imagine they won't be on the carpet, I suspect yellow minis will be the best compromise.

I've not looked at a durrango front wheel but assuming they are standard modern width like a B4 wheel no need to cut down or use 4wd tyres, use as is.

I think I'll play is safe with Yellow mini spikes, I've used them on 4WD on the same track and they appear to be the most popular choice. The new DEX210 front wheels are the standard wide fronts like the B4, TLR 22 etc, so I'll stick with 4WD fronts with schu medium inserts. See how it goes.

I'll only be running on the track for one event, its not my local venue, just not wanting to waste a lot of cash on useless tyres, Yellows will be the safe bet.

Its up here in Scotland, the West Coast Open held at Ayr. Similar in size to Worksop I think.

Might be worth trying the new DBoots Terrabytes 'B' compound. I tried them this weekend on my 210 and compared to yellow mini-pins they had marginally more grip.

Why 4wd fronts?

The 210 has wide front wheels the same as the Kyosho RB5 so standard size front tyres like stagger ribs won't stretch over the whole rim so you have to cut them down.

Agreed original stagger ribs don't fit a modern 'wide' front wheel but 2wd slim minispikes fit perfectly. I ask as in my experience 4wd fronts give no more turn in but lots more mid corner hook which as I've never found I wanted more than an un trimmed set of 2wd slims.

Each to their own but I don't think I've ever seen a 2wd with 4wd front minispikes and thought it looked anything other than worse than others running 2wd fronts.

Just getting my head around 2wd tyres..... So you run slim 2wd tyres on full width 2wd frot wheels?
If so does this not distort the side wall of the tyres?

I've just bought a pair of 4wd front spikes to go on my 210! Just wondering now if I made the correct decision :confused:

And while we are on tyres...... How would you guys mount cut staggers? Narrow or wide?

Staggers - run on a narrow wheel (cut the inner section off the 2WD wheel with body scissors or similar) and no inserts

Cut Staggers - run on normal width 2WD wheel with foam insert

Just mounted the cut staggers (with inserts) onto some front wheels and to me the tyres look better narrower, than being streached on wide 2wd fronts :confused:

One thing to consider with these tyres is that the staggered are lower profile (diameter) than the cut staggered which, are normal profile e.g. same as mini-spikes. So a set of cut-staggered on a narrow wheel will mean that your tyre diameter will tend to be greater than normal. Whereas putting staggered on narrow wheels helps increase their profile closer to normal.

Having said all of that, I’m not too sure what effect being too far off ‘normal’ diameter will have. I’m sure some smarter person can explain.
