3 Piece Wheels
When I were a lad, and all this was fields and we had jumpers for marshall points, my Kyosho cars had 3 piece wheels. Meant you could get away with a couple of sets and swap tyres readily. Given we now use inserts too, I wonder why (aside from weight) why they are still not in use, given the relatively high levels of aggravation involved in re-using wheels? I see drivers having boxes full of tyres on wheels, most of which they probably rarely, if ever, use.
Just a thought? |
It would cost more for manufacturers to produce 3 peice wheels than a single moulding and I wonder how much difference the increase in unsprung weight would make to handling

Reminds me of a similar complaint back in the day, and an older chap responding, "If you can afford tyres, and say you're too cheap to buy wheels, maybe you need a less expensive hobby - go check with your grandmother, I'm sure she has some knitting you'd enjoy." |
them were the days (mid 80's), pretty much using kit tyres in all weathers (usually pissing rain) just hoping your car would last the 5 minutes!
