New used 410 tips hints

Ok so I have recieved my used 410 and Im in the process of going through it cleaning and checking it over.

What are some things I should know and look out for?
Things to have in the tool box such as spares etc
Do I need the brass weights?
I have alu side pods does it make it too stiff, should I go for the plastic ones?
Sway bars needed?
I have +2/-2 insterts do I need others?
Toe in hubs?

With the outdrives they feel loose, not in and out but left to right, this normal?

What upgrades are recommended?

And a nice setup for tight carpet, or tell me what tracks run carpet and Ill look them up myself

thanks

Have a look here on how to build your diffs and what seals to run:

As for set ups:

Yes to plastic side pods.

one crucial thing is the diff shimming against the bevel gear.

And make sure the diff cases do up tight, or bolt them together longer bolt and nut.

Make sure you put the cap.on the rear prop shaft, you really don't want that pin to come out!!

thanks, I have checked the diff for side to side movement and there seems to be nothing, but have ordered a few shims to be safe.

Diff cases good call Ill look into longer screws and a nut

The rear anf front pin I have loctited the set screw and have shrink tubed the joint.

HD ball cups.
Weights.
Both make a big difference.

Until you actually manage to pop an HD cup off, then it keeps bloody coming off.......:(

good that you have the rear & front drive shaft pins covered (see other thread)

certainly check or rebuild diff case.

spares to have from day 1 - i can only think of front arms & hinge pins.

brass weights, side pods, sway bars - imho, they are tuning aids that are not required from day 1 but can make your life easier once you get used to the car.

if i were you, i would just get the few things checked and then start running the car PRONTO! :woot:. get a feel of the car, find out what you like & don't like in the context of your local track surface & layout. ONLY THEN, look at the tuning aids ...

Spares to carry.....
Front and rear bulkheads
Especially the rear it tends to brake when you crash
Rear wings it's worth carrying a spare

And a spare spur gear, as long as you have the alloy wishbone holders
That's about all you will need

Is there a aftermarket shell that has a lilttle more room?

Andyp 31-10-2011 07:49 PM

The new V3 shell should have a little more room , they is also the tresery gainabull , it has loads of room under but they are like hens teeth at the mo !

I think the New V3 shell gives u a bit more room in the front because it's cab forward design.

May I ask how much you paid for them, caneye? (Assume you're in the UK.)

OneKiwi 01-11-2011 07:17 AM

where do I get one of them from?

mattr 01-11-2011 10:37 AM

One,
I can bring my gainabull shell to the club tomorrow so you can see how much extra room there is, might even use it now i'm ending up on the roof a little less often........

(depends on if i get a pass out or not.)

caneye 01-11-2011 09:33 PM

onekiwi/tangled - The bugle shell is made by Bugle himself. (you can PM him on Oople) That's his username :)

he's shipped them to the UK & europe before, so it will be quite easy for him to work out the cost & postage for you folks.

You will need 2 packs of TD310135-roll pins

It looks from the pics you only get 2 hexes in a pack so you will need 2 packs of TD330312.

They is also alloy hexes - TD310226 not sure if these are out yet !
