Custom chassis
Hi guys....
i want a new project and i think its going to be developing my mid motor car into something a bit more reliable... so.. just wondering... where can i get some cheap glass fibre sheet stuff? around 3mm thick and big enough to make a chassis and a few other little bits? the finished product will be made from carbon fibre (if funds permit) but i would like to make a prototype first.. Also... what do people reckon to a new name for it... I like the idea of Muddy squirrel... shortening it to the MS2... no idea why though!!!!! any thoughts? Cheers.. Tom |
Not seen Fibre Glass tom but fibrelyte do CSC which is like carbon and fibre glass which is a bit cheaper than carbon.
Had some stuff made from it, seems pretty tough |
its expensive though! lol... i mean the stuff thats like a yellow colour? or just a cheap material in general to make a prototype from

Thick lexan? you can get some really big sheets reasonable off Ebay, not sure how thick though.
|
Try B&Q mate, they usually have sheets of thick lexan/plastic that should be good enough for a chassis mock up.

|
Try general model shops .... quite often used in things like scale boat builds ... that sort of thing.

Found this company who do glass fibre as well as carbon fibre sheets |
Great find there Ant ........ :D

I got some 2.4mm GRP sheet off eBay. The guy was selling PCB sheets and such and stating them as robot armour, had tons.
He cut some longer pieces for me that were chassis size for like £5 for two. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/PCB-Circuit...QQftidZ2QQtZkm |
If you don't mind buying from America this is a great place.. http://www.americanepoxy.com/G10Page1.htm

There is a company I have recently done accounts for a company called North East Fibre-glass. They work in the boat trade and have invoices for places called fibre-glass supplies, Cleveland woodcraft and Hartlepool marine services. Perhaps these three stores and company could help you.
