RB5 Vega gearbox build

Hi guys, just started building my new RB5 Sp2 (WE) Vega & noticed there's a couple of fibre washers in with the gearbox parts in the Vega kit.
Could someone please let me know where they fit or what there for?
There about the same size as a bearing if that helps.
Thanks in advance

Pete

These are there to shim the layshaft, between this axle and bearing on the slipper side if you got too mich side play.
I don't use any on mine, adding one bind the whole gearbox too much.

I Dont use them on Ashleys at all no problems.

Thanks guys, my gearbox has build up a treat, no play & very smooth.

Did anyone have any problem with the rear wishbones binding up? Fitting the plastic suspension blocks, ( got the ally ones coming) does it need the anti squat shims putting in? If so what are people running? When I tighten the rear one it locks the wishbones up??

No shim for anti squat on mine, mount the alloy suspension blocks right from the start. The front one is a direct fit but the rear one needs some work done to sit properly flat on the chassis.

I screwed the front one and carefully remove material from the rear until it fit then install the wishbones. No binding, I even put a .1 or .2 shim to remove play, still with wishbones falling down with their own weight.

Thanks tomtom, I'm pretty sure it's the plastic block & sure it will be fine with the Ally ones. They should be here this week.

the plasic ones do make the arms rub on the the chassis a little bit,it could also be,as with the ali on you need to remove some to get it to fit flat,if you havent done this with the plasic one,it will sit at an angle, the more you tighten the screws down, the more angle will be made so will make it worse,if you look at the hinge pin holder,it has a shape in the bit that sites on the the chassis, that needs to be removed, easy with a knife,

Hi all
Just so people don't get confused.
You don't have to file the plastic or the alloy rear holder.
We do this so it sits flat to the alloy chassis and thus giving us more anti-squat. More anti-squat allows the car to have more mid corner steering by allowing it to pivot better on the rear.
If you choose not to do this then you must run the appropraite spacer otherwise you will make the plastic holder swist and deform. Also by adding the spacer then you will discover more rear side bite and maybe less steering.
My advice if you need it is to do everything that others have pointed out above (they are correct) and always consider the spacer or thinner ones as it's a good tuning option.
Hope that helps a little
