Inserts

What inserts shall i use ?

i was going to try some of the new schumacher tyres but cant really find any inserts to use.

graveltrap 22-10-2011 08:19 AM

I've been using Proline closed cell inserts, they worked well with the blue compound minispike I got to try at the final round of the SC Nats, others used fastrax yellow moulded inserts with good effect.

The stock hard inserts are pretty good but yeah, closed cell, avoid any soft foam.

Andyp 22-10-2011 08:55 AM

Ah faststrax i never thought of them !

@BBP what do you mean stock inserts? i thought the shuey tyre didnt come with inserts ?

BeachBuggyPhil 22-10-2011 05:06 PM

Sorry, stock AE SC10 wheels.

Ok got some fastrax yellow inserts , what way round do they go ? the insert has a notch cut out on one side i would guess this goes to the inside so the outer sidewall has the full insert so gives asmuch support as poss ?

chris68nufc 01-11-2011 07:44 PM

Andy.....you've got more cars than bloody Frank butchers car lot

Andyp 01-11-2011 07:55 PM

Mine are quality tho !

I used Fastrax Yellow's all round for the SC nats, the side with the larger inner diameter goes toward the centre of the truck :)

Opposite of that. The knotch faces to the outside of the wheel, square cornered edge toward the inside.

I'm new to these short course tyre's, are you using 1/8th proline closed cell inserts or the 1/10th proline closed cell inserts, as i have some spare 1/8th closed cell inserts and they appear to fit inside the tyre very well but I don't have any rims yet to put them on.
Schumacher mini spike tyre's, ordered DE Racing rims.

JabberingJimbo 02-11-2011 07:25 PM

Ah ha... So you going to keep your prize then Tony!
SC use different foams due to the odd sizes inside/outside.

I can't find any so may have to get the scissors out To my collection of 1/8th ones ;) will let you know.

SCT tyres/rims have different diameters inside versus outside (larger on the insider, smaller on the outside) - so your 1/8 foams won't work. Stick to 1/10th SCT foams.

I've used both the proline blue and fastrax yellow closed inserts, the fastrax are quite a bit softer, but i prefer HPI open cell ones, they're softer again.

Proline 1/8th V3 closed cell inserts work just fine, I have been using them in the majority of my tyres for ages...In fact I've only just started using the proper Proline closed cell inserts for sct. The V3's will still be a nice tuning option though as they are a bit stiffer.

I've also used discarded foam inserts from various 1/8th tyres without problems, I do run an SC10 so the wheel thing isn't really a problem as a well designed tyre supports itself on the 2.2 side...

I suppose there's a lot of things one can do, saw the neighbor jump off his roof the other day, doesn't mean their right or work well for long. ;)

Well, me DE racing wheels turned upto today and I tried test fitting 1/8th scale proline inserts and they appear to be a good fit inside the Schumacher tyre and on the rim, I will try these out when Motor & ESC turn up, and the thrust washers for the ball diff.
Looking forward to giving the truck a run, just need to save up and buy a few litres of paint :woot:
