Speed controller

Hi
I bought a b44 and it came with a nosram 4.5 turn motor can anyone suggest a reasonable speed controller that will be ok
Also it has a sensor plug on it what is that for?
Regards Adrian

To be honest a 4.5 motor is a bit to quick for a buggy. The most powerful motor I would use would be a 5.5.

The sensor plug is for a sensor lead. Sensored motors give you a bit more control, it tend to be smoother.

Esc wise to run a 4.5 you'll have to get a top end speed control. What you budget?

I use speed passions myself l, but the orca, Tekin, and viper range are all good.

Thanks for the reply
To be honest its only for racing around a carpark to let off a bit of steam in the summer so the faster the better
As for budget if i need a top end one then i will have to pay the money i will just have to save up for longer
Would i get one for £100?
if not what sort of money are we talking about?
Regards Adrian

You'd easily pick something up second hand that would handle it for that..

For what you want, a Novak gtb will handle the 4.5 and you'll pick one up cheap 40-50 quid.

You could pick up a hobbywing ESC new for just under £100. However the 4.5T motor would be on it's limits. A 5.5 is recomended for offroad and 3.5 max for onroad.
You'd also have to check the gearing so it doesn't run too hot.
If you just want it for playing around and nothing too serious I'd go 2nd hand.

Go for the GTB secondhand if you can get 1, i used to run 1 in my b44 & it fits in fine, also if you are going to run a 4.5t in it make sure the diffs in both gearbox's are correctly shimmed or it will eat your gears, when you put the diff into the gearbox there should be no sideways movement, if there is add extra shims on the diff gear side to ensure a nice mesh with the other gear
Have fun :D

What gearing do you think would be best?

Dazzler 22-10-2011 11:05 AM

I've not run a 4.5, but the Novagear app (by Novak) would suggest an 18 tooth pinion with an 84 tooth spur.. ( I think that is kit std)

That's not true mate, people are running 2.5 & 3.5s in TCs with HobbyWing V2.1 ESCs

I've personally run a 4.5 in a buggy with a V2.1 and it wasn't any warmer than with a 5.5 to be honest.

2.5 & 3.5 in touring???? Umm not this year nationals they havent. with 5cell then yeas. The lowest ive seen all year is 4turn lrp speedo and motor compo and the guys with hobbywings use 4.5 and 5.5's

But i agree with the 4.5 in a buggy ive got a 4.5 in my B4 and ive only ever got it to 60deg on carpet (glos)
