55 Passat power problems

Ok so got a 55 plate passat 2.0 tdi, 140bhp non-common rail, clocked up 112k and its developed some power issues.

Between 2500-3000rpm, under hardish acceleration, power cuts out and in quite abruptly, bit like its hitting the rev limit. However its doing it in every gear when it wouldn't be hitting the limiter (ignoring 1st as the limiter in 1st is pretty low)!

Can't notice it doing it out of gear and revving the engine up to 5k.

It's only proving a problem when trying to over take rapidly, car happily reaches and goes along at 70+ on the motorway with no complaints.

Anyone any thoughts of whats up with it so when I get the time, I can take it to the garage with an idea of what to look for!?

Cheers folks

EGR valve or blocked CAT would be my guess. Had similar probs myself and it turned out to be blocked CAT.

You really need to get it into a garage for a diagnostic test, it could be lots of things that causing the fault, I've replaced air mass sensors and also turbos because of the fault you describe and there's a massive diffrence in price ! Good luck getting it sorted
