SV diff handed ?

Hi,

Having just rebuilt my SV diff, It decided to undo itself during it's 9th race.

The diff was properly built with all new balls, cone washers, thrust plates, bolt and cer clip (put in the right way, sharp edge facing against the groove and streched a little for a tight fit). I also thread locked the grub screw.

I've had the SV from new about 4 months and the original diff build lasted almost all that time. It worked itself loose eventually, hense the rebuild.

I think the grub screw last time was on the motor side, and this time it WAS on the motor side.

Is this diff handed ???

Should I thread lock the bolt AS WELL as the grub screw ???

Thanks for any help .
Rob :)

no its not handed, thats why the grub screws there, tighten the grub screw against the diff screw using two drivers, if that makes sense to ya
PS never ever had one come loose on use in 2 years racing and never ever used thread lock.

Hi,

Thanks for that, but I did do it up like you said. I must be doing something wrong

As carl said he is spot on if you keep the diff screw held and tighten the grub screw against it you should be good to go i had probs with mine till i done it his way

then your building it wrong or not tightening it up properly, or you have a defective part in your build

OK,

What is the value of a 4 mounth old SV 2011 roller? Only raced indoors on carpet, 100% perfect condition.

Thanks.

Its a ball diff. Regular checking and maintenance REQUIRED

Even after only 8 races from a full rebuild?

Yup!

Well that's the first diff I've had in 30 years of racing that needs that level of matainance !

Is the diff coming lose or undone ? If it's coming lose it's probably just settling in just keep retightening it till you get it right.

To be honest, the bolt and grub were still tight. But the diff just let go right at the start beep. The race before, it was perfect. I did add an extra 5% to my throttle and nip the slipper an extra 1/8th. Maybe the extra power was just enough to piss it off?

All I can think of is that the spring washers gave up or the bolt streched?

I stripped the diff last night and looked it over, everything was as it should be. I rebuilt it with the correct tension, and it's fine again.

It's an odd thing, I can't say I like the spring washer idea.

I’ve found that the diff dose settle in quite a bit. I.e. diff rings gruve, spring washers flatten but just keep adjusting it and it will be fine.

Ps the cougar likes the diff on the tight side
