Choice of Soldering Iron?

Hi

New to this forum thing - so bare with me.

On a previous thread the best soldering iron for RC is the 'Spec Racing Soldering Iron'. However it is now closed and no Spec Racing Soldering Irons are on ebay - just a list of 1,000's from China.

Can someone please, please, please recommend a good soldering iron that you can buy? 12v or 240v is not an issue. Just a good one.

Thanks

Get yourself a Weller or ERSA station and watch your grandchildren use it after you. The stations are excellent and can be had on ebay. Don't shy from the used ones. They are built to last.

Mine is from 1976 and still going strong.

I bought a £25 40w weller from our hardware store and so far it is tops. Very hot quick on motors and speedos and is a joy to use.

weller probably is the better product but this good for £10

Similar spec to the S.P.E.C iron... And cheap..

But is obviously biased toward the bigger jobs..

Just want to thank everyone for their responses. I will get straight onto it.

I got one of these from Maplin. I got mine when it was on sale for £10, but they seem to have gone up now. Very happy with it. Useful to have a temperature control on it.

I bought my 80w iron from Cromwell tools, they have shops all over the UK but are for more industrial customers, but they do take cash.
My soldering iron looks just like a Weller, and does a good job.
If you buy a cheap soldering iron it is worth getting a good tip as it is this that really sets a cheap iron apart from a good one.
