Charger Problems

Well here goes, I have a Fusion Typhoon LB50B Pro charger which I sold to a friend and he has returned to me complaining that it takes nearly 3 times as long to charge a pack of cells.

Had a look at it and he was right, set at a 6 amp charge on a pack of nimh's it's only putting out 1.7 Amps ! This also happens when you reduce the output current on the screen - 3 Amps on screen, 0.86 Amps actual output.

Have popped the lid and it has a 7805C voltage regulator ( to run the electronics I presume ). And 2 high power Mosfet's, cant remember the number but they were rated at 49 Amps in spec sheets

Has anyone had a similar experience or any clues to what the problem could be, or indeed a solution apart from throw it away ?

Are there any variable resistors/pots that can be used to adjust it?

No, everything appears to be of fixed values and no burning or smelly bits inside either.

Tis a mystery.

If you know your resistor colour codes and have a good meter, you can see if any have gone off value.
