Taping tyres - yes or no?
Hey guys,
Ive got several sets of new tyres, and before I glue them up I ALWAYS thought it was important to tape/strap the tyres so they dont balloon out. I first saw this tip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP6iTaetz5k However, at a local track, other racers were saying this is wrong and that tyre manufacturers DESIGN the tyres to balloon and taping is ruining this. Bottom line - to tape or not to tape? Thanks guys Andrew <=== very confused!! :eh?::bored::eh?: |
i dont think its needed
1/ if it was needed the manufactures would add belts as on road 2/ if it was done then there would not be pitures of cars with huge ballooned tyres at the worlds 3/8th rally x dont do it either 4/ ductape will not last and if part comes unstuck you have far worse problems |
do 1 with and 1 with out then have a go...
see if you can notice it then report back |
@cigbunt - Good idea m8, will do.
Thanks to everyone who replied - certainly seems like the consensus is no, but I'll let you know the results! :) |
What tyres are you doing this to?
|
I was doing it to all my tyres - which were normally ProLine and DBoots.
However, my new tyres are Schumacher mini-spike and precut staggered ribs. |
No need to dude, you should be thinking about more productive things :lol:

this, is never really done in any off road class anymore.
Before the invention of 2 stage foams or moulded inserts then yes. but now we have no need, the inserts do all the work. I have never heard of it being done in 8th! and now you say you are using schumacher tires...well these are made of plastic and do not ballon anyway. so no need. (infact, less invent a foam that allows the schumacher tyre too ballon a little ;) |
