Id Help needed

3 Attachment(s)
In my recent purchase of a Cat 98 when i collected the car the guy gave me his old cars and pitbox, these are the two cars and i need help identifying which models there are from the experts here on oople:thumbsup:
i know the first four pics are a Yokomo and the last three are Kyosho,
any help would be gratefully received, thanks in advance Mick:)

The Yokomo is a YZ-10 and the Kyosho is an Optima... but there were several versions of both of those cars and I'm not 100% sure of the specific models!

I think the Optima is the first version (red shocks and balloon tyres) but the body is wrong, probably an aftermarket RC10 shell.

The yokomo (the one in the first 4 pics) is defiantly a yokomo works 91 you can tell by the chassis, it has a aftermarket front bumper from rpm

Hope it helps, good find

Works 91 manual is worst than useless as it's text no pics, works 93 car is quite different. If you go to end of line rc website in there downloads section they have a parts listing with drawings of the 91 car it gives u a idea

The Optima is an early version of the original Optima, identified by the early shock mounts and slim wishbones, a production change meant later Optimas had the thicker wishbones and taller shock mounts from the Turbo Optima included. The gear train has been modified, looks like a Robinson Racing spur gear on there. The front wheels are the correct ones. A manual for it can be found here
http://www.retromodelisme.com/manuel...ma-kyosho.html

There is also a copy of the Works 93 mannual on the site
http://www.retromodelisme.com/manuel...93-yokomo.html

Spares for both can be found on ebay, repro bodies for both are available from Team Bluegroove on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/TEAM-BLUEGROOVE when they return.

Agree with terry.sc, that Optima looks identical to my 1st, shocks tower and chain, and dodgy screws used to tension the chain by pulling the front bulkhead and tightening the screws to the chassis rails. The Kyosho originals were a very odd design and you couldnt buy them separately and they fell out very easiliy! Deffo a first edition. Bodyshell not Optima, Turbo or Pro but something else. Nice car.

Moozo 22-09-2011 04:11 PM

Thanks to all for the info........just stripping them both down to gather parts lists for them both:)

Optima is in pretty good shape only needs a few parts....body, wheels/tyres, shock parts, chassis guard and i would like a motor guard......oh and a bloody good clean:thumbsup:.....it also ccame with the original Le manns 240 motor:thumbsup:

Dogfighter list is a little bigger and is in a worst state....but i'm not giving up:p i like a challenge and when its finished it will be worth it:thumbsup:

I think the lemans 240 motor came with the Turbo, in fact I'm sure it came with a 240 of some sort (the Turbo Scorpion had a 360pt iirc) and the Turbo Optima would have had the gold shocks. I suspect someone had a standard optima and bought the Turbo motor. Standard Optima just came with a regular Mabushi 540s I think... mind you, it was over 25 years ago. All I remember is swapping the 540 for a Demon 19x4... Nick used to make some crazy good motors!

Apologies for the pedantry but the piccies do bring back some great memories!

Nice finds Mick :)

I used to have a 240ST in my Cougar back in the day, it went like a rocket. Hard to find these days in good condition, and i've been trying for a while.

Paul.

Blimey, I rememeber buying that edition and sewing the free patch on to something (I dread to think what). That is a simply awesome find, well done sir!

The motor you have is a 240ST, which is a 22 turn motor that dates from 1989, a couple of years after the Optima series was discontinued. It was supplied with the basic versions of Kyoshos race buggies. The original 240S that came in the Turbo Optima has a red endbell and red anodized alloy front plate.

Body, stickers and tyres aren't a problem, I can recommend MarwanRC for great repros. Choice of tyres depends on whether you go for the original 1.5 inch Optima/Javelin wheels or the 2 inch Turbo/Salute/Pro wheels.
