modeltech.co.uk .....ordered from them ?

Hi, I was wondering what peoples experience is with ordering online with modeltech.

I created an account, and wish to purchase a couple of items. When I proceed to 'checkout', it displays a screen which you then enter your credit card details. Normally, I do not have a problem with ordering over the net with a card. However, asking for your credit card details BEFORE knowing how much the postage would cost has put me off from ordering from them.

I have tried contacting them through their online message system several times, to no reply.

I dont wish to call, as I'm not keen on spending x amount of $ for an international call(yes I am tight haha)

Mike Smith run's modeltech he's fine to deal with been doing it for years, he's also behind STCC and central booking. He won't run off with your card details.

fastinfastout 16-09-2011 11:55 AM

oh no, I don't mean like that. I'm not secure about placing an order because it doesnt tell you the international postage cost on the initial checkout procedure, unless you supply card details first. I would hate to be stung with unknown costs

Mike's normally available on skype

fastinfastout 16-09-2011 01:22 PM

I don't have skype. Chatting up chicks on the net is not my thing

email him ?

I've ordered from Mike many times in the past and never had any issues !

Just email him first for a postage quote for overseas, that what we have to do with our overseas customers since it is extremely hard to caculate a price for all destinations with so many variables (value, size, weight urgency and dimensions etc etc)

for peace of mind the general rule is always do web orders via a creditcard (rather than debit) as you'll be covered your your purchases

Ditto on everything thats been said about Mike, he's a good bloke.

yes as I have quoted in first post, have tried to email through their online system but no reply.

Does anyone have his actual email address?

You are aware he has been shut for annual vacation, as was on his home page?

umm no, I have looked on his homepage but cannot see anything about him being away. However, I have left about 4 messages in the space of 2 days ago right through to 6 weeks ago.

does anyone know when he will be back?

I will just place an order when he gets back, if for some reason the postage costs is extreme, I can always cancel it. However I cannot see a reason for excessive international shipping for a couple of motors, as I get 90% of my RC goodies overseas.

ok thanks for that:)

Just registered on the site so I can reply......

@Mark: thanks for the message, unfortunately I'm not a member on Oople so have now registered.

@fastinfastout : I can assure you IF I had received any emails they would have been responded to, I have just checked the 189 emails in my in-box today and there is nothing that appears remotely related to the topic here.

The postage terms are at the bottom of the front page, and there is also a specific postage page, linked to on the front page, but here is the direct link for you (apologies to admin if this link breaks any rules): http://www.modeltech.co.uk/catalog/postage.php

Also if you would like to give me your phone number I will gladly call you Monday if you still feel it's too expensive to call us ;)
If you are oversea's, which seems to be the case, we regularly ship all over the world, as you appear to be US based please check with your card provider to make sure your credit card will accept charges from the UK as we often get them that don't!

Hope this helps.....

Mike.

PS: I have been at West London all day today and will be tomorrow as well racing/managing the Corally/STCC 2011 final championship round.
PPS: we were closed for 6 weeks from the 27th July as I was in the USA, as it did state in a large bright red box at the top of the front page of the site :)

thank you for registering to oople to reply to my message.

I will be sending you a PM(private message) very soon, so if you go to your 'private messages', make sure under 'edit options', that your 'enable private messages' has been ticked to allow messages to get through to you.
