Rick-J 08-09-2011 08:37 PM

I raced my RC10 around there. Don't remember the tarmac track. Have you got any pictures of Donisthorpe or Ashby?

I remember racing on the dirt track. We had a team from the Taunton club race at a club challenge back in 1989 ish.

What happened to it?

IT's overgrown now, it's in the corner of the field where Priory Park go karts are in Tamworth

+1 for donisthorpe! remember the tarmac at Tamworth too, good times. Just acquired a Bigwig (always wanted one) and seeing this thread makes me want to race it again.

None for Donisthorpe, possibly Ashby though i'll have a root around

Blimey o`riley.

There some of my blood sweat and tears in those tracks. I was one of the Tamworth club members.

Sadly after the wooden rostrum burnt down. It all went downhill. The dirt track was flattened and grassed. The Tarmac track as far as I am aware still exists, however it is under a few hundred tons of earth.

On another note but forever connected with the above tracks, Jim Davis snr passed away during August. I was at his funeral last Monday 5th September 2011.

Very sad to hear :-(

RIP Jim. Many a Saturday afternoon were spent sat on the stairs of his shop on the Wilnecote retail park; pot noodles and wotsits for lunch from the Co-op behind, racing all day on the smaller original tarmac track outside the shop.

That rostrum is a sight for tired eyes - John (of Ardent), Phil (his brother) and I spent a LOT of sweat and elbow-grease painting that when it first went up. Was gutted when it got burnt down! :(

I'm pretty sure my mum was convinced I was throwing away my future spending all that time up at the track instead of studying for my O-levels. I lived and breathed for Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings, and of course the occasional camping weekender - drove my mum crazy. They were good times. Thanks for sharing these!

Yeah, you said it Andy! Unclipping each others brush springs between heats, shooting airsoft guns in the woods next to the track, cleaning up battery acid off my mum's carpet having dropped it coming home afterwards... :woot:

I remember that so well, parents dropped us off for the day, Wayne bought some paint off to us and we spent the entire day painting the rostrum between battery charges :-) it was a bloody hot day if I remember right. I left the hobby before the tarmac was done, it was grass and dirt, must have been 1990-91. RIP Jim, you and the Davis family inspired me to create Ardent Raceway. Remember the day we hosted a BRCA national there and we were amazed at how good the little whipper snapper Jamie Booth was? Love these pics, anyone got any more of Tamworth???

How about the day Lindsey (Brett Davis' Girlfriend) was splitting frozen beef burgers and the knife went right through her palm and out the other side? I remember nearly vomiting :-) lol, I was only 17 though :-)
