Motor and esc: im still abit confused

Hello, im still abit confused with what sensored motor and esc to get for my mad monkey. I dont know whats good and whats bad. Should i go for a combo, or buy them seperatly? Is this any good http://www.modelsport.co.uk/lrp%20br...products/31080 ? And this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ORCA-Brush...-/400205341099 ? Or can someone suggest a motor and esc that work well together. Lowest 8.5t. Thanks for reading.

Either of those combo's will be fine.
The only advantage of buying seperatly is that you can mix and match esc and motor makes to smooth power delivery or even make more aggressive, but it usually costs more this way.

thanks for the reply mate  If i did buy seperatly would this http://www.jespares.com/electric-mod...ategory_id=532 be a good esc choice

Very good esc the LRP SXX, I have a nosram version which is the very same just red in colour. Also look at the speed passion gt2 LPF which can be got for under £90 new if you look around.

danny the elfman 30-08-2011 02:35 PM

what motor would be good with that?

captainlip 30-08-2011 03:10 PM

as per your first post I personally would choose the orca system.

as for the LRP speedo I too owned the Nosram Red version and is renowed as one of the best esc's to buy, clearly if your going downt the seperate route you going to want a good motor to go with it, I use LRP X12 motors but they do run hot, could also try tekin redlines with that esc.

Any of the good brands really, speed passion V3, LRP X12, Novak Ballistic, Orion etc to name a few. I personally run V3 speed passion as I like the feel of them overall.

TC spec is massive overkill for 2WD in my opinion, although as mentioned it is an awesome esc.

Personally I'd get the orca system you linked to earlier, or a 60amp hobby wing esc and a speedpassion motor.

just one more question, i think im gunna buy them seperatly. But what am i going to need if i do this, sensor lead and programme card etc?

captainlip 02-09-2011 09:22 PM

lrp is onboard programming. lead comes with motor.

danny the elfman 02-09-2011 09:28 PM

what about speed passion esc's?

If you're looking at the Speed Passion, I'd recommend looking instead at the Hobbywing Xerun. It's the same speedo, but with different casing. Hobbywing make the Speed Passion.

For a 2wd, you'd probably get away with the 60A version (same as the SP LPF), but as they are so cheap in comparison, you may as well get the 120A (same as the SP Pro).

You can get them cheapest on ebay from China, but if you want the peace of mind of buying from a UK supplier, have a look at RacersInExile <<<click.

Even with the programming card (which is helpful to access all the settings) they are cheaper than the SP (which will still need the exact same programming card).

I was gonna say this when I first saw your your post, but assumed RogerM would be along soon to sing Hobbywing's praises ;). He must be on holiday or something.

I would tbh go down the LRP route its one of the best out there along with the tekin rs pro and a few others, but from JE at £130 its a steal! as these were £200 not so long ago!

+1 for the hobbywing
have a look here http://www.giantcod.co.uk/xtreme-stock-p-405301.html
you will all so find a cheep digital program box on the same site.

Another +1 for the Hobbywing. I picked up the Xerun 120amp a few weeks ago and its been superb. Always had the Nosram's over the last few years and they have been good but these Hobbywings are fantastic. Program card makes it easier to use but not a necessity.

As for motors I'd give a thumbs up for the new HPI Flux's. My 6.5t is great, has been running cool for me in the Durango. Pleanty of punch and top end. Go for a 7.5 or 8.5 if you want something more relaxed to start with. Excellent price as well.

cigbunt 03-09-2011 10:36 PM

would the 60a hobbywing run a 6.5t on a 2wd without anything going wrong?
even tho the "quoted" spec is as below?

Suitable Brushless Motor:
With 2 cells Lipo or 4-6 cells NiMH, 1/10 on-road:>=5.5T, 1/10 off-road:>=8.5T

?

I think one of the lads at Southport may be running that, will check tomorrow.

craigosh 04-09-2011 09:13 PM

He got the 120amp in the end, so no help i'm afraid. 120amp is pretty damn good value still though.
