Velcro vs Double sided tape
 

I've had disagreements with Mr Lovett on the pro's and cons of using Velcro to attach your electronics into your car compared to using double tape.

I've always maintained that the safest and best method of installing your electrics is using double tape to firmly attach your electrics in to stop it vibrating and wobbling around during a race etc.

Matt on the other hand insists that Velco is the best option he says: "it is a good engineering solution, it allows change of placement, basic shock absorbtion, quick change if needed".

I have used Velcro since the 80's in my R/C cars. Its ace. Never let me down, never had a problem with it in use. Better than scrabbling around with double-sided, especially when the cars wet and you need to change something. Can change electrics quick and easy, especially PT's or receivers when you only have one between 2 cars.

Your right Mike, double sided is far better as it holds electrics far better than velcro, and is far better for absorbing shocks and vibrations.

I don't agree on the double sided giving more Protection from shocks, I think Velcro will have that bit mor cushioning/give for electrics.
On the other hand Velcro is for shells, end of:lol:
LMR double sided for me!

I'm unquestionably with Matt...mostly becuase as it actually probably allows for more shock absorbsion and vibration than double sided!

Although shock and vibration is a complex question of frequency/intesity/inertia/momentum/other randomly chosen engineering terms that sound techncial, Velcro allows for more movement, and at this scale I'd def consider things to be more isolated with velcro than double sided.

I've not had ANY electrics fail in more than 5 years of racing...so for me that's good enough reason to think that velcro works perfectly!

I also like the quick removal, moving about'ness of velcro too :thumbsup: Pulling esc's/recievers off double sided is orrible! Always feels like your going to rip the thing apart before it comes off the chassis :lol:

That said, one benefit to double sided...space...velcro is thicker, so if you have limited space then double sided could possibly be a marginal benefit.

I also think it has more shock absorption than double sided. Its far superior all round. Without a doubt. Griff is a newbie. Dosent know what hes talking about. I mean, what has he achieved in R/C Racing ?? Hes a Surfer dude with a forged F1 license, thats all :lol:

When I had my bigwig, I think it was the first time I had ever velcro'd stuff in ( or was it my mini mustang?). Good stuff, but double is neater and BETTER:p:p:p:p:thumbsup:

Double sided sticky, as i have discovered breaks down, leaves a stain on chassis and always seems to give up when you least expect it! Leaving you to try to clean up chassis and speedo etc trackside in a mad panic...for me resulting in scratches on chassis etc....So for that reason im out and wont be investing in mikey;)

Hmm, I can't vote as I use both!
I think double sided sticky is strongest and neatest, but my transponders are velcro'd in as I have more cars than PTs!
My receivers are 50% using tape and 50% using velcro so I can swap them around cars.
So whilst my preference would be tape for everything, I don't use it for everything:woot:

Decent double sided tape for me.

I've had things that have been velcroed in come loose and bounce around the inside of the car during my numerous crashes on the track (you've seen my driving!) and get damaged as a result, it's never happened with tape.

Now, if I could find Velcro that was as secure as tape, that would be a different answer......
