Lee Martin wins 2WD European Championship in Pau, France

1 Attachment(s)

Defending 2WD European Champion Lee Martin retained his title at the 2011 European Championships held at the Plaine des Sports du Hameau track in Pau, France. After qualifying 2nd on the grid, Lee took to the track to challenge former 2WD World Champion Neil Cragg in the pole position, for the win.
Lee slid through into 1st place on the first lap of Leg1, and didn't look back - taking the leg win 7 seconds ahead of Neil.
Leg 2 didn't work out quite so well for Lee, although he managed to pass Neil on the opening lap, an error saw Neil move back into first position. On the final lap of the race Lee made another error and lost out on 2nd place to Paul Bradby.
Lee was back on form for leg 3 however, and won the leg 4 seconds ahead of Neil, securing him the Championship win.

More news and pics to be added soon. Congratulations to Lee on his win, and all the other drivers who put up a good fight, especially the UK team

Big thanks to James Helliwell for the pics.

Awesome result for Lee and Tamiya! It's so cool to see that there are more brands joining for the battle of 2WD over the last few years - with Durango as the latest addition to that - and not doing bad either if you ask me? :)

question of length

Is it me or does Lee's car look like the chassis has gained some length at the the front.

And here's the video of how it was done! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Kg1WnYbJLo

Could be the Sand Viper body, though perhaps indeed the TRF team (and Lee) did some tinkering on the wheelbase... :)

AaronR 25-08-2011 03:58 PM

Yeah, I believe it is that Sand Viper body with no additional length to the chassis. The 201 is 4mm longer than a standard B4.1, so therefore 4mm shorter than the +8mm chassis' most AE B4.1 drivers were running at Worlds.

Excellent job, Lee!

Hi Turd! :wub

KRob 25-08-2011 05:25 PM

Lee had a lengthened chassis from Worsley done the same way as he has done some B4.1 for the Worlds.
I was told, like the AE chassis it was 8mm longer which I took this to mean 8mm longer than the kit chassis.
