Is my brushless motor broken? Please help

Just took out the Xray for a little bash, running the 6.5t Fusion Exceed Motor and ESC combo.
After the run i revved up the car and heard a little pop, then my Motor will not turn anymore. :(

The motor nor ESC where hot, they were only warm.

It makes a whining noise under power, thats about it.

What can i do? I only bought it a couple of weeks ago.

hi

hi there have you tried turning the shaft with your fingers if it dont turn ide advise you to take the back of it may be something simple like one of your bearings have moved or poped out if so just pop it back in or buy a new set ov bearings if they are broke but if you dont feel confident taking it to peaces then take it to the shop you got it from and demand a refund :P

Thanks for your response, im panicking as i cannot afford to replace this combo it cost me £120!

Ok i got it from Modelsportuk, but i might contact Logic RC to see what they say too.

Will i void my warranty (if i even have one) if i open it up?

When i turn the motor, it feels different to before, but it does turn by hand.

hi

Don't open the motor or take it to pieces! Likely to void warranty. Especially if you've bought from new.

Is your sensor cable plugged in properly?

Do you sense an odd smell with the ESC? If so you may have blown a FET in the ESC.

I would return back to modelsport....probably easiest ans safest thing to do.

hi

actually yeh take it back and if u cant get a new one take it to ur club and get someone to sort it for u

jasjeet 20-08-2011 07:19 PM

No smells, everything seemed normal in terms of appearance, smell and temperature just after the little pop noise.

Servo is working fine, i think ESC is fine, ill connect it to my brushed motor to check.

Sensor cable is plugged, when its unplugged i get nothing at all, no noise. Plugged in i get a noise.

When i turn the motor it feels like something is almost like grinding, but not very much, enough too feel it and still turn the motor.

I dont have a club, i just bash lol

Naushad 20-08-2011 07:59 PM

Im not quite sure what you are feeling with the motor is quite normal..

You could check the esc with your brushed motor but bear in mind the circuit connections are different!

Don't panic!

Just take back to the shop so they can inspect matters.

I was advised by MSUk to send the motor to them with a letter, i wrote:

I have recently purchased the “Fusion Exceed Pro Brushless Combo - 6.5T” from yourselves at the start of July. After only a couple of runs on the weekends it seems to have developed a fault on 21/08/11. Towards the end of my run the motor seemed to stop responding. I checked the temperatures, both the Motor and ESC were only warm; I could hold them for over 5 seconds.
After taking my car apart I found that the motor wouldn’t spin under throttle or reverse, it only makes a whine sound. I could turn the motor by hand but it doesn’t feel normal.
I was advised over the phone to return the Motor to yourselves so you could take a look at it for me and hopefully arrange an exchange, the motor and ESC are in near new condition physically.

ModelsportUK just contacted me to say they have received the motor and are sending it to Logic RC for investigation.
Cost me £6 to send it back, i hope its worth the trouble.

Just for future ref never rev a brushless motor with no lode on it, ie off the ground .

Muzzie 26-08-2011 03:06 PM

I've also just posted mine back to Model Sport as its just stop working. I've asked they inspect the ESC & Motor to find the reason for the fault and repair / replace the items under warranty. Let me know how you get on and I'll do the same. Hope it's not going to take to long as I'm out of action:bored:

Muzzie, how long have you had yours for? What car, what gear ratio?

Why?

jasjeet 26-08-2011 08:39 PM

I didnt rev it off the ground, i revved it into my driveway ; )

Also i only hear that revving the BL motor without connected to the spur is bad.

I've had the set up for around 8 month and it's just been used for general bashing / practicing. I'm running a CAT SX and I went to my first race meet 2 weeks ago. All was well but in the final the thermal cut out kick in  and then this week in the first race it just gave up ...

With regards gearing I'm still really GREEN and it all seams a dark art , but I took a setup off the Schumacher web site:

Pinion 22t
23t Layshaft
33t Idler

Could this of caused the fault???

jasjeet 30-08-2011 04:56 PM

Havent had anything from MSUK since 24th August when they said they are sending it to the supplier.
Hopefully i get something soon.

Muzzie 30-08-2011 08:22 PM

Same with me, 7-14days I've been told:cry:
