New shell with cans. Whats next ?

Ive just painted a shell using liquid paint mask for the first time but still with rattle cans. Really enjoyed doing it.

What kind of knife do people use for cutting ?

I'm itching to have a go with an airbrush now. What would people recommend at the moment ? Also where do people spray ? Is indoors an option with an airbrush and non toxic paint ?, DIY spray booth ?

Cheers.

if you are going to be painting regular then a good airbrush and compressor with a tank. I use Swann Morton blades, Bob Dively liqui mask and faskolor, spray in the annex where it is nice and warm.

Haha, as above really. If you're looking at getting an airbrush then you can't go wrong with an Iwata HP-CS. I got mine for about £50 off ebay.
again, if you're using faskolor then a decent compressor would be a good idea. They are a bit noisy though, so if you've got a good out-house or shed or garage I'd go in there. I'm outside in my shed.:)

Nice shell by the way.

That is one nice looking paint job! All the more so for having been done without an airbrush!

What shell is that by the way. Looks vaguely familiar but cant quite put my finger on it...

as for a spray booth
get a really nice car board box as big as you can
then get a 120mm PC fan, double side tape it to the box or go mad and screw it to the box, then find some material u can use as a filter i use 100mm loft insulation and a ventilation tube from b&q £8 out the window the loft insulation goes in front of the fan and catches the paint dust i know if you use faskolor it non toxic but the dust gets every were,
works a treat

great job dude, well done. :)

! also, wear a respirator aswell. whether the paints youre using are water based or not. !

Wow, seems a lot of kit for the money. Would getting spares for something like this be hard later ? Is 30psi enough ?

jonmiller 02-02-2008 01:53 AM

no way would 30 psi be enough

Bigwrenn 02-02-2008 04:48 AM

Rattle cans you say?! Nice paint job!

I don't see how these airbrush kits can be any good. A compressor with no tank , I just don't see how it wouldn't pulse without a tank.
