Favourite Astroturf?

What is your favourite type of astroturf? Is there a track that has the perfect type, and what characteristics do you like about it?
More interested in the surface than the track/layout..

This our new full astro track at bury metro the surface is excellent and offers high grip in any weather conditions. It sort of has a thick pile to it which aids drainage.

a mix of old and new rhr, the old high grip and new lower grip is perfect

MikePimlott 15-08-2011 08:09 AM

Stotfold seem to have the right stuff.

I like how its consistent all way round the track, but thats probably because its the same all the way round :woot:

It was just easy to drive round! Not too grippy, not too loose.

One of those questions that's going to end with answers from people who like one particular track...

Personally my view is, this is Off-Road, surely you don't expect/want it to be like Touring cats and be the same all the way round. A mix is good, it sorts the men from the boys. Yes you're going to have people that don't like it, but hey, when can you please everybody. My only criticism of some Astro tracks is the amount of Sand they use.

I like Kiddy's track, but don't like the dirt sections. Mainly because they're always different, plaster the buggy in dust on dry days, mud on wet and encroach onto the Astro sections after and dig up very quickly.

Bit of a contradiction there, Russ?

Piman 15-08-2011 09:45 AM

Any without sand!!!

Yeh, i know there's a slight one Col, but it was the dirt section i was referring to, not the Astro. I actually loved RHR's grippy, non- grippy astro. Dirt is one of those surfaces that when done right is awesome (PDA), but when just added with other track surfaces can deteriorate and just go plain silly....

Stotfold for me

Bury is good in the wet don't know about the dry though

JohnM 15-08-2011 01:36 PM

I prefer the real kind, you know the stuff that grows and needs cutting:lol:

But if pushed, Stotfold has the nicest fake grass I've driven on.

chuckie stella 15-08-2011 02:21 PM

Stotfold

Pownabown 15-08-2011 02:36 PM

Ledbury for me, but im biased lol. Although when we ran the 2wd regional in the pouring rain the grip was still really good and could still have proper racing without being frustrated at it breaking away alot. So thats how i like it :)
