Cab fronted bodies, what's the crack?

It seems everywhere you look these days everyone is running a cab fronted body rather than a conventional one on 10th buggies, so what is the reason?

Is it these bodies offer a handing advantage or is it just the latest craze?

Mouton 11-08-2011 03:45 PM

Those who defend these nasty looking beats use arguments like more grip due to the cab beeing wing shaped.

Personally, I think that if there is any real life advantage it is because other drivers, using "normal bodies", loose focus for a fraction of a second every time they see these uglies...

Some of them just loook really nice when fusioned with an awsome paint scheme :)

 correct....I still love traditional shells...but even standard 1:1 road cars are rocking it...check out the Mitsubishi colt! Looks like everybody who drives one is Maverick from TopGun!! :p Love it

The colts almost as ugly as those awful shells, but would be interested to find out how many people actually buy them.

I run a Bulldog shell on my B4, can't comment on the handling because I haven't compared it back to back with a conventional shell. Certainly I haven't noticed any handling problems.

I've got used to the looks and quite like them now, but what I definitely like is the amount of clearance it gives your ESC. The conventional bodies with room for a big ESC all look swollen in comparison.

This.

I used to hate the cab forward shells then I saw the FTW vane on a 22 and it looks awesome. it also gives a lot more clearance for the ESC and if like me you dont have a PT then it gives loads of room for one of them as well

the cougar 1 looks pants (y Front)

For the first time ever (I think) I agree with Welshy40.

If these "shells" made me into a national A finalist I wouldn't run one.

the only possible exception is the FTW vane for the 22. That is nearly acceptable. Nearly.

Although not racing in the class, the cab-forward shells don't seem very attractive. But I am curious; how do they pass this Rule...

22.1 Cars entered for Off Road competitions will be reasonable representations of full size cars generally accepted as being suitable for Rallycross, Rallying, Trail and Desert races.

...when I can't find any of the above that look anything like the cab-forward shells on any website? The class doesn't seem to ignore other equally clear Rules, like car width or weight limit. Just curious...

Slow - that thought had crossed my mind too:thumbsup:

telboy 11-08-2011 08:38 PM

But if the BRCA stuck by that rule, no buggy would pass really.
None of them actually resemble a real life off road buggy.
If they want that then we should all run Tamiya Grasshoppers etc.

...still ugly as hell, but we may find real life versions if we try hard enough ;-)

Mad-Wolfie 16-08-2011 12:36 PM

so vanity prevails then :woot:

This is pretty close to what the old RC10 and Kyosho Ultima were based on?
